It would be useless in a nuclear attack, but it could be used for regional alerts for high winds, floods, high temperatures, major motorway incidents, terrorist attacks, virus outbreaks etc. Well, we don't want to be disturbed by those going off every few minutes, do we dave? I've stopped notifications for those. I'm busy enough as it is.

This Sunday at 3pm the government are going to test an emergency alarm that will go off on every mobile phone in the country. Why does that need doing now? In this world of 24 hour news is there more to this than a sudden need to warn us of a flood or forest fire. A nuclear detonation would in all likelihood render your mobile phone, along with computers and anything electrical, useless.

The chances are the first you will know about it is a bright flash at which point forget your mobile phone, and if you havent got a below ground safe space with a stash of drinking water, it's goodnight Vienna. Tbh, in such circs it may be better to get it over with quickly.

Unfortunately, I can't remember the details here, but I recall hearing some military analyst providing what he thought might be a possible scenario for escalation
Regardless of the details (all of which i can't recall), one point he made is that a limited nuclear war is actually a more likely resolution than most people think. His scenario had Russia striking several key ports, which wouldn't likely precipitate an all out response from the west, but would probably reduce the uk to total chaos within a few weeks

Also when nukes were first invented it was mistakenly believed that the nuclear fallout would make it impossible to go outside for a thousand years. Now we know that its a couple of months so long as you don't enter the actual killing ground. Not suggesting its OK btw. We're a similar age and I remember an interview with a General who was giving advice. When asked what he would do he said, climb on the roof and watch the show.

One would hope the warning would arrive before the missiles Don’t bet on it. As part of the millennium bug ‘preparations’ i was paid rather a lot to make sure the billing system used by one of our then mobile and internet providers would ‘withstand’ the millennium and in the course of that proved that their billing arrangements with Barclays were in fact at first not capable of such operation, and not through a fault at their end. With revised arrangements in place (i don’t know what Barclays changed, it took them a week to do it) the billing system worked perfectly. However, come the hour, so many millions wanted to say happy new millennium the cellular system overloaded, crashed and burned. Had any calls got through they would have bern charged. Loads did not The real world scenario for such armageddon involves total shutdown of civilian communication. This exercise is just bullshit laced with a stress test of whatever hardware and software they put in place since to handle overloading of the kind that maks buying glasto tickets such fun ..,

If you survived the blast and radiation , your new enemies would be other people in your town .

If you survived the blast and radiation , your new enemies would be other people in your town . Indeed. Assuming the nuclear war was national and global.

There was panic buying and fights over toilet rolls after lockdown. With that in mind just how much do you think people would behave themselves after even one or two nuclear weapons were used on the UK.

I'm sure there would be a rush on toilet rolls/food etc. However I don't see that as a threat to myself or making the people of my own country my new enemy. What I expect would happen after a single strike is a Rabbit in headlight reaction. With people watching the news and waiting to see the Wests reaction to it.

Probably the most accurate view of what would happen.. I recommend the whole movie to those who have not seen it.
