Oddly enough that's what Mrs R says too, lol. ...just before she banishes you to the shed for the night. Quite the reverse actually, she moans at me if I spend too much time down here in my garden retreat.

Can't go risking our remaining airworthy Lancaster. There are only 2 still flying anywhere in the world. A bit of weather didn't worry the Dambusters. Actually, Operation Chastise was very nearly cancelled due to early morning fog.

An 80-year old aircraft is also likely to be showing its age...

Might be a breach of safety regs if there's fog — but it's intended that the Lancaster will be fly a special route over all Bomber Command bases in Lincolnshire as well as the RAF Museum at Hendon, thereby avoiding central London.
So the chances of grounding look less than for yesterday...

I've only seen it in the air once. The Lancaster flew over a folk festival I was catering at near its base. It flew around in a circle directly overhead then went off to its appointment at a Battle of Britain memorial. That was over 30 years ago but I still remember the sound it made. I can't imagine the noise from hundreds of them flying off on a raid.

A couple of years ago, I think I mentioned this in the other place, we had a Vulcan and a Lancaster fly over us at quite a low altitude. The Vulcan in particular was an incredible sight. We assumed they were en route to an air show somewhere.
Ref the Coronation, did you notice the height of the crowns? They're as tall as top hats. I imagine Charles and Camilla must have practiced wearing them, or facsimiles, before the event.

..watched it...loved it....no bugger does pageantry like us...what a great day Must be a nice duty for all the military involved. A bit tense that they don't mess up in front of the world but there will have been a few barrels sunk last night after it was all over.
