Won't be watching the whole thing, but it promises to be a spectacle.
On the argument about our monarchy, my observation is that it seems to work. We have a functioning Head of State at all times, while we can kick our head of politics out of office whenever "we" lose confidence in them — whether that be 40 days or 10 years. Presidencies don't appear to offer that facility...

Presidencies don't appear to offer that facility... ....true as democracies only work on the basis that the loser accepts the result....so I guess it functions as a stop gap against an armed political coup on the basis that the armed forces swear allegiance to the crown not Parliamentarians ergo a separation of power. As you say "presidencies" can be precarious... I suppose one could look at the potential of such with Trump for example and his denial of the election result which could, with a bit of imagination, have turned into a coup d'état...imagine if he persuaded elements of the armed forces/national guard to enforce his claim as their existing CiC?

Came back from the States to find that someone I know will actually be AT the shindig.
Z.... came to Britain nearly thirty years ago from DRC literally in the back of a lorry.
A few years ago he was honoured in the queen's birthday list (for community service that's covered everything from running food banks and community allotments to setting up a free "odd job" service for pensioners and the disabled, alongside various music projects..), and now he's off to see an old man sit on a rock and have a metal hat put on him.
Not my cup of tea at all (By coincidence - and planned weeks before the event was announced - a group of us who were involved in an (abortive) film project in Wales during Lockdown are having a "reunion" that weekend at our very rural location), but I hope he has a great time.

Yes! It's bound to be a bit less majestic than the previous one, but I hope they don't scale it down too much. Pompous, stodgy, vainglorious, bishops and peers draped in velvet and ermine, bugles and choirs, Zaphod the Priest and Nathan the Prophet... Yes please! Bring it on!

That's the man! Well spotted. T'other refers to Mr Beeblebrox, who has neither constitutional nor cermonial role in these events.

It may be recalled that the King is a noted Handelian and would have insisted on exactitude in such matters. Who could forget his selection of 'Let the bright Seraphim' on the occasion of his first wedding in St Pauls.

I still see him as a little boy in short trousers playing on well manicured grass
In general I dont know much about him. I find him lacking grace or dignity and wish he would stand up straight instead of tipping forward as if he is about to fall over. And that he would take his hands out of his pockets...lord i am sounding like an overbearing grandmother.
I have no idea about his "manifesto" or his thoughts about the commonwealth or how he sees his role or how he will manage the press.
Other than curiosity, I really dont care. Because I really dont know.

No, because he is a total hypocrite and will never be in the same league as the Queen. I would just find the whole thing embarrassing.

No, because he is a total hypocrite and will never be in the same league as the Queen. I would just find the whole thing embarrassing. Whether I watch it or not is yet to be decided however, I suspect I may find it annoying rather than embarrassing. From what I've read the coronation will be a trimmed down version of previous coronations, and will have a heavy focus on the commonwealth. So as is the norm these days, black and minority ethnic people will be overrepresented. And in all sincerity I say, I am not in the least surprised.

Since the Queen died I'm ambivalent about royalty, but Mrs BW will watch it all and as I will be in the same room, ensuring no one is wrong on the Internet, I expect I shall catch more than a glimpse.
