A man who threw five eggs at King Charles during a visit to York has been found guilty of a public order offence. Patrick Thelwell hurled the eggs towards the King and Queen Consort as they arrived at Micklegate Bar on 9 November. All five of the eggs missed. Thelwell, who was a student at the University of York at the time of the offence, was given a 12-month community order with 100 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay costs of £600 and a £114 surcharge at a rate of £5 per week. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-65276668Pathetic sentence, absolutely zero deterrent. I think the sentence is fair. He really needs to use the time for target practice. 0/5 really is a poor show.

I think the sentence is fair. He really needs to use the time for target practice. 0/5 really is a poor show. I disagree. If punishment is supposed to be a deterrent then this sentence is no punishment. |

It's right that people can legitimately have differing views, which they can voice as widely as they like.
But why do so many of these campaigners appear to want to upset the day's enjoyment of many, some of who, might actually share some of the ant-monarchy group's opinions...?

Because they are idiots is the short answer . Surely any 'demo' has to have a reasonable chance of changing the status quo or at least some progression of the cause . This one would have niether and is basically a look at me Im a div outing for the afflicted . |

I agree people who wish to celebrate his Coronation will come to London from across the UK and many other countries to take part in and enjoy the day, part of the UK history, King Charles 111 is the 32nd Grandson of King Alfred the Great who reigned over 900 years ago. The anti royalists will be greatly outnumbered by the people who really want to see the Coronation and be part of it, I remember the Coronation of his Mother the late Queen, many millions around the world will be watching it |

Popularity is obviously waning a little in our corner of Derbyshire.
And old chap on our road is a huge royalist (he went down to look at the body, last year). For a couple of decades he's always put notes through the doors to get up a street do' for anything "royal" - pretty much everything from a wedding or jubilee to HRH passing a kidney stone.
I don't go myself (he knows my views on the monarchy), but I'll usually drop off a few beers. As the street's demographic gets "younger", attendance at these affairs has slowly dropped.
While I was in America, he'd posted a new note through doors saying that due to lack of interest, his coronation bash is now scaled back and happening in his garden.
