I'm sure Charliie boy wouldn't sleep a wink knowing that anecdote. I'm pretty certain the goings-on of the proles don't even register with the Windsors. Just so long as we keep giving them money, turning a blind eye when it suits them, and turning out to wave and bow if they come to town..

No he isn't. The line has changed several times since Alfred. The most recent being the Glorious Revolution when William and Mary exiled James II passing the Crown to the House of Hanover. Also, Alfred ruled 871-899 which is 1,124 years ago. According to what I have read he is, his late Mother was a direct descendant of Alfred, I did say over 900 years ago however you are spot on Think about it Handyman. Alfred was an Anglo Saxon. His line ended in 1066 when William the Bastard defeated Harold at Hastings. None of our monarchs have been related to Alfred from that point on.

I'm pretty certain the goings-on of the proles register very strongly with the Windsors. If they piss us off we will all become republicans and stop giving them money. So far they have not done so to any great extent and I am happy to hand over the £1 or so a head that keeps them in the style that cheers us all up.

I can only go on what alleged experts state as being factually correct Only through marriage. Henry I married Matilda of Scotland who was the great granddaughter of Edmund Ironside. It's not a direct line.

..the great granddaughter of Edmund Ironside. Could this have been one of Shakespeare's first plays? The jury's been out for centuries, but there's a theory that the anonymous play "Edmund Ironside, or War Hath Made All Well" was banned due to a scene involving archbishops fighting.. (I've read it. If it's by the Bard, it's not one of his best.)
