That being the case it seems a little silly to be whining about not being let in when it suits you. I don't want to be let in.

It must be a first among free countries that it is easier to get into it than to get out of it.
Are you sure this is what controlling your own borders means?

"Traveling around Europe prior to 1992 was easy." It still is. As long as you have an EU passport or identity card. If you're Russian, Moldovan or British it can be a little more challenging.
But Out means Out, right?
Nothing has changed - we are in exactly the same situation as we were in 1992 and I dont recall a lot of wailing then. People went for holiday or business to other european countries without a lot of drama.

Curiously enough, on arrival by air last week I encountered a choice of passport line: UK plus the USA, Japan and sundry others (including the EU) who could use the machines, and everybody else who had to present themselves to an immigration officer. On returning to France there were also two queues, one of which was for EU/EEA only. The other one was for aforesaid Russians, Moldovans, (non-resident) Britons and everybody else. That's just terrible. Life cannot go on like that, such a tragedy.

Dan, we don't need to be in a political union with the EU to travel around it and have holidays. Spain didn't join the EEC until 1985, the package holiday boom to Spain began in the 1960's with the advent of widely available cheap air travel. Spain was still a dictatorship when my father's generation started holidaying in Majorca.

I remember going on holiday to Spain when Franco was still alive - somehow we managed to get in and out of the country OK..

I am glad the UK is out too. Now the rest of us can get on without all those whiney opt outs and vetoes.
And at least the EU controls its borders.

Dan, thanks to the removal of borders travelling around Europe today is indeed easy for everyone, including criminals, terrorists, people traffickers and illegals.

Showing your age, woodbines lol. When I smoked, I was a Players No6 man. B&H 60 a day gave up 35 years ago when Doc told me I’d be lucky to last three years if I didn’t.

When I smoked, I was a Players No6 man. B&H 60 a day gave up 35 years ago when Doc told me I’d be lucky to last three years if I didn’t. Jeez, 60 a day. I got through 20 a day for 20 years, then I saw the light thank god, and that's not just for health reasons. I believe a pack of fags costs more than a tenner today, mad.
