What's wrong with checking and stamping passports? Passports are there to be checked and stamped.
Now we only have to fight decisions made by one government rather than some Wizard of Oz set-up.

I expect these things. It will be fixed when the press stop talking about it. We'll get these problems sorted and go back to an amicable and independent relationship with the EU as all other countries around the world not in the bloc do. We can do loads of trade without the politics. Macron is pretty chummy with the UK so for now it should be plain sailing. A bigger problem for us is Biden the bastard. We have to be careful not to be pushed around by the US. Joining the CPTTP seems like a good move. Our Asian trading partners are really happy to see us join. This puts us ahead of the EU in fact.

but if you mean the ones reported on the BBC recently, i feel obliged to say, over years of working for clients near the ports and tunnels i cannot actually remember a year where easter WASNT blighted by god knows how many hours of delays, USUALLY down to someone’s industrial action. It’s expected.
It's all part of the EU's work to rule to make everything difficult. But if the problem is that the French passport-checkers taking too long then the solution is to get more of them or make them work faster. This isn't rocket science. The solution is not to rejoin the EU. We can visit most non-EU countries without difficulties. It's just the French and the EU trying to punish us for having the temerity to leave the useless EU.
Traveling around Europe prior to 1992 was easy. All you did was show your passport, it wasn't difficult. Post 1992 when we were handed to the EU without a referendum, traveling to France was so much easier because "we no longer had to show a UK passport". Phew, what a relief. We were conned, joining the EU meant anyone in Europe could move in next to you and set up a canabis farm and if you dared to question it you would of course be shouted down as a nasty racist far right extremist. It's a fact, the EU has succeeded where Hitler failed. We are now overrun with foreigners.

Curiously enough, on arrival by air last week I encountered a choice of passport line: UK plus the USA, Japan and sundry others (including the EU) who could use the machines, and everybody else who had to present themselves to an immigration officer.
On returning to France there were also two queues, one of which was for EU/EEA only. The other one was for aforesaid Russians, Moldovans, (non-resident) Britons and everybody else.
