No one has suggested that is the case, you are merely fabricating imagined opinions in order to complain about them. It is simple, 96.02% of people in Scotland are white, to imply that 3.98% of people should have a greater representation than that because of their skin colour is racist. Let me make myself clear. I am not saying, or even implying, that 3.98% of Scotland's population should have a greater than 3.98% representation. I am saying their representation should reflect the demographics. That's all. You, on the other hand, appear to think that all employment should be reserved for the white majority. |

I am pleased that you regard your new FM and his list of achievements with admiration, I hope that you will be very happy together. Ripley, 96.02% of the population in Scotland is white, in this context it can be seen just how inappropriate it is for a senior political figure to make such an outrageous outburst. I heard him speak. I wouldn't describe it as an outburst. Regardless of the percentages, don't you think that all ethnic groups deserve representation? Why should anyone be excluded from employment based on color? That's absurd.Well that would be illegal in England - does Scotland not have similar Laws? |

Following the arrest of Nicola Sturgeon’s husband, it’s probably fair to say that the SNP now has more urgent matters to worry about. Even so, I think it’s worth reflecting on a bizarre comment made earlier this week by Karen Adam, one of the party’s MSPs. In a newspaper article she wrote defending Humza Yousaf, her new leader, she suggested that opponents who call him “useless” are racist.
I hope I can reassure her on this point. No, Mr Yousaf’s opponents don’t call him “useless” because they’re racist. It’s because they think he’s useless. A conclusion which they base on his record in office.
As one critic put it to him last month: “Humza, you’ve had a number of jobs in government. When you were transport minister, the trains were never on time. When you were justice minister, the police were strained to breaking point. And now as health minister, we’ve got record high waiting times.”
The person who made these criticisms was not from the Tories, Labour, Lib Dems or any other rival party. She was Kate Forbes, of the SNP, during a televised debate between the party’s leadership candidates. Was it racist of Ms Forbes to mention NHS waiting times? Racist to mention delays on the railway? Racist to mention police under-staffing?
I don’t think so. But if the SNP does, Scotland had better beware. Perhaps it will soon be deemed racist for voters to think Mr Yousaf is useless, too. And a hate crime not to vote for him.
