So are you saying that civil servants should be prevented from moving into politics? That’s an interesting point. I suppose it depends what you mean by ‘moving into politics’ Any person employed in government service seeking election to parliament must resign their employment at the point they submit their nomination at the start of the short campaign. This i know to have been the case in the late 1970’s and i believe it is still the case. I presume, but i do not know for certain if, the same applies to the devolved administrations. God knows what the rules are for tbe dog dirt politics at council level.
