Immigrants fleeing persecution do not have to settle in France, they can apply for refugee status in a country of their choosing. That's the thing, they're not applying, they're trying to enter the country illegally. Please do try and post honestly without the deflections and moving of goal posts. You do understand that they have to enter the UK before they can apply, right?

He actually said that the language of the government was reminiscent of Germany in the 1930s. If you think that he called Suella a Nazi you need to go and reread what he wrote, without your interpretation of what he said. What was special about Germany in the 1930's? - might have something to do with the Nazis being charge...maybe?

If we are a Liberal Free society, then the idea that a man who works as a sports (football) commentator on our state broadcaster cannot express an opinion on social media about a topical issue, is quite frankly ridiculous.
The comments he made were tame, and he merely suggested that the kind of language used surrounding asylum seekers was reminicent of 1930s Germany. And he is 100% correct For people like Jacob Reece Mogg to suggest that the licence fee is now up for debate / consideration again, is nothing short of vengeful blackmail, and political interference. That's not true they were not tame. They were insulting and very offensive. Shame Lineker didn't boycott Qatar World Cup if he is so concerned about human rights. He may have gained more credit than this latest episode which looks like nothing other than virtue signalling.

Anybody who mentions 1930s Germany is automatically referring to the Nazis which is a not very subtle way of causing contention and playing on peoples feelings. Which has become the political weapon of choice.

Yes, of course, it is about the language that was used at the time to demonise immigrants. If you look at the the language that is being used by the government, it is deliberately used to stoke the xenophobic core by "othering" sections of society. Are you saying that he was wrong?

Still, we'll have a new government soon and they will no doubt take advantage of the precedent set by Johnson and appoint their own stooge.

Calling the immigrants an invasion force, telling us they are thieves and rapists, telling us they are rich, telling us they are illegals, telling us they are putting extra pressure on the NHS, telling us there are hundreds of million waiting to get in and so forth is language designed to spread fear and hatred. Just like the Nazis and we all know how that ended.

Politician demands the BBC demonstrates its independence from political interference by sacking its chairman at the behest of politicians. Is this the same Keir Starmer lover of free speech who insisted all his M.P.’s say nothing and pay their respects only on the accession of Charles?

You do understand that they have to enter the UK before they can apply, right? That's for asylum seekers, not immigrants. The oversight in the law, which seems to have been weaponized, is hopefully being corrected to prevent illegal entry from the channel crossings, which Lineker believes to be Nazism. This is part of the new rules, which addresses the safe country pass through to help prevent illegal entry into this country.
