Through the wall heat pumps are OK (not sure about the running costs - suspect the same as a fan heater) but they have the same basic problems as fan heaters - noisy in use and no residual heat. They are very much NOT the same as a fan heater. A fan heater uses electricity to directly heat air. A heat pump extracts existing heat from the air outside. They cost roughly half that of a conventional electric heater to run. My run at 1500 watts and give off 2,950 watts. Further they are silent, as in they make no noise at all. No idea what you mean by residual heat, why would you want residual heat? Its clear you know nothing at all about heat pumps, how they work or anything, that's fine except when you talk rubbish about them.

This country has a very poor general knowledge in technical things. I think we need to change the education system and have less of the Shakespeare and more on the thermodynamics.

OK I'll take your word for it - it's just those I have seen have all had fans. Perhaps I was looking at the wrong type. I bow to your superior knowledge.

I'd settle for a more general knowledge of how household appliances work. How many people have no idea even how their boiler works.

Hi - just out of interest can you tell me the make of heat pump that doesn't have a fan as I'm struggling to find one?

There isn't one, the fans are silent. What manufacturer makes silent fans? Look it up. Try heat pump decibels.

Oh so yours came with ear defenders aswell... No they are silent. I have one, you don't. And I work in construction and the biigest gripe with those who are fool enough to fall for the BS is the noise pollution and the first one is that the fucking things are useless. We all know you would be fool enough to have one...LOL...Yet another lemon with the singular 'M'

FFS I have seen more and heard more of these polluters than you ever had....All the big construction companies will admit those lemons are the biggest gripe for new builds...I will tell all the site agents that I know and speak to most days that according to the nutters all is rosy.

What manufacturer makes silent fans? Look it up. Try heat pump decibels. Which is what I said - I have looked it up and cannot see any silent ones. So what manufacturer is producing silent fans?

It's a bloody clever fan. Two reasons it is quiet are hydrodynamic bearings and the shape of the blades crates a vortex. You can place you ear right next to it and still not know if it is on or off.
