Politico that is the problem! It shouldn't have failed. If the world had faith in the political and economic stability and growth and international relationships necessary to develop new technologies, the company would not have failed. This is arguably the fastest growing technology in the world. It is relatively swimming the high tide of serious investment. The benefits will go to those who compete best. This is why the UK government was desperate to have access to Horizon. For which was free, is now subject to a fee. sciencebusiness.net/news/Horizon-Europe/uk-requests-horizon-europe-fee-renegotiation-risk-further-delaying-association

Perhaps you are too young to remember deLorean and the Scottish pig project, both of which leeched our money with no return.

Britishvolt's original businessmodel was flawed, based on exaggerated visions of an electric car only future.

It had a crap business plan that failed to attract investors - the UK Government is not responsible for their business plan. The new companies business plan looks slightly more likely to succeed - but we will have to wait and see.

Nevertheless it seems the UK's Brexit supporting unelected prime minister is more than positive about the value of the single market. And such a rush to hush it up.
One wonders how low the UK economy will go before practicality overtakes stubborn stupidity.

Exactly, crap business model. And lets not forget the demise of car manufacturers when we were in. Ford car production and Transit van production (2000, and 2012 respectively), Peugeot Ryton, Rover Longbridge, Honda Swindon, LTI Coventry, TVR.... Loads of car companies have bitten the dust, membership of the Single Market did nothing to save them.
Not one of those cases was anything to do with us leaving the EU.

But the EU would not grant the UK the same powers as they are prepared to grant NI - which kinda explains why Single Market membership failed to get through the HoC.

One wonders how low the UK economy will go before practicality overtakes stubborn stupidity. Sunak certainly gave away the (fairly obvious) fact that he's actually a remainer - and he will never be allowed to forget it. It reminds me of the old proverb "Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practise to deceive". You always get found out. But what's good for Northern Ireland is not necessarily good for England. Our membership of the Single Market destroyed our industry. Making a comprehensive FTA with a trading bloc like the EU is a very dangerous thing to do.

Sunak campaigned for leave in 2016.

Making a comprehensive FTA with the EU is exactly what Boris spent so many hours trying to get and thought he had. And what the UK economy depends on.
The Withdrawal agreement was supposed to be it, except that no one in the British contingent understood the difference between tariffs and customs duties and forgot about phytosanitary and veterinary checks. Oops.

Sunak campaigned for leave in 2016. I never saw him campaigning. More to the point Kate Hoey said she had never seen or heard him campaigning for Brexit.
