Our supermarkets have refused to pay suppliers more. Farm shops and Greengrocers shops which have put up prices and paid more have stocks.

Our supermarkets have refused to pay suppliers more. Farm shops and Greengrocers shops which have put up prices and paid more have stocks. That's where we agree. As dodgy Dave (I think) says. Our supermarkets don't work with their suppliers and their system for keeping prices low is killing the the farming industry they work with. That's probably why we are last on the list when there's shortages.

Some tomatoes appeared back in Morrison's the other day, but the only peppers they had were a few green and ridiculously small ones, still selling for the same prices as ones 4x the size.

I realise that you never go outside, but lots of people grow their own veggies and it's nothing to do with being fuedal.
Honestly, you really do talk some shite.
Eventually they decided to make all the proles' strips of land into one large plot and invented tractors. Do you know why they did this, little child? Well, they invented enclosures to create a pool of starving cheap labour for their satanic mills

I mean moving to automated machine production to vastly increase the standards of living was clearly the work of the devil. Much better to live like an aristocrat in pre-industrial idyllic times like Willian Morris and John Ruskin.

Tractors didn't take off in this country until WWII when the government started distributing them for free in order to up food production and free manpower for the war effort. Most small farms (which was the majority of farms back then) were still using horses which took up a lot of manpower. Not only farm labourers but also blacksmiths, farriers etc. Also land previously used to grow hay for the horses (around 20% of a farm's total land) could be ploughed to grow food for the population instead.

They were introduced for the reasons I've outlined above.

He was one of the leaders of the arts and crafts movement which was a reaction to industrialisation and promoted a return to craftsmanship. He would not have been a fan of tractors.

Hmm, very interesting. Actually to be frank with you it does not surprise me in the least. I live out in the country and the local farmers are really dense. I believe our industrial decline set in most likely before the beginning of the 20th century. This is why the Americans took over and we are now so poor. The same was repeated for the invention of the jet engine. It was the Americans who foresaw the revolution to come in cheap passenger flights. We invented it and made nothing. Americans have a more forward-thinking brain. The tractor has been measured to give 40x the production. Why would you not use one?

Also they didn't want to deprive so many people of their livelihoods. A tractor can replace 10 ploughmen and their horses and work for longer without needing rest. It was non-agricultural necessities and free tractors that accelerated the move from horses to mechanised farming.

Well, they invented enclosures to create a pool of starving cheap labour for their satanic mills Actually it was more to do with the price of wool. Princes and kings wanted sheep on the land and set targets for lords and barons on return per acre. This pressurised the Barons to throw the strip farmers off their land. It coincided with the satanic mills.

My uncle & aunt bought a farm in 1960, their first tractor was a Little Grey Fergie and it was working all the time. It was the first motor vehicle I ever drove aged, nine or ten probably. They had other bigger tractors over the years but they kept that Little Grey Fergie until they retired. Aunty absolutely loved it.

UK farming has some of the best yields per acre in the whole of Europe.
