Roald Dahl’s children’s books are being rewritten to remove language deemed offensive by the publisher Puffin. Puffin has hired sensitivity readers to rewrite chunks of the author’s text to make sure the books “can continue to be enjoyed by all today”, resulting in extensive changes across Dahl’s work. Edits have been made to descriptions of characters’ physical appearances. The word “fat” has been cut from every new edition of relevant books, while the word “ugly” has also been culled, the Daily Telegraph reported.
Augustus Gloop in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is now described as “enormous”. In The Twits, Mrs Twit is no longer “ugly and beastly” but just “beastly”.
I guess it had to happen eventually — but it's taken over 200 years since Thomas Bowdler did his stuff on Shakespeare and Gibbon's "Decline and Fall......"

Silly PC/woke nonsense. These words appear all over the place. Perhaps more a hedge against bad publicity if some parent takes offense.
It is about time we stopped being so sensitive in the hopes that we can wrest a few thousand quid from the "offender". Judges need to start telling chancers to stop being pussies and learn to shrug off what they say offends them.
I object to these people restricting free speech.

Please standby while your culture and history is re-written for modern audiences. We will be back after a short intermission.

Ah yes, I just mentioned this elswhere.
This morning I listened to a discussion on the radio about the children's classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Yes indeed, Roald Dahl is the latest author to come under the woke spotlight. It seems the weak and fragile want the character of Augustus Gloop, the greedy fat kid, changed or written out of the story. Yes you guessed it, they say the character is offensive to fat people.
Thing is, when will the silent majority start to fight back, or more to the point, will the silent majority fight back?

The woke lefties probably couldn’t tie their own shoelaces but some of them are well versed in political strategy. They will get to their leftie utopia one small step at a time .

I think the woke people should "go to town" on the medical profession's use of the word "morbid".
Morbid meanings: ! Characterized by an unusual interest in disturbing and unpleasant subjects, especially death and disease. 2 Of the nature of or indicative of disease. (eg. Morbid obesity)

Just listened to an interesting snippet on GB News about this woke nonsense. It seems due to Puffin's announcement that Dahl's work is going woke his books are flying off the shelves, Amazon have reported a spike in sales with comments like, "Full fat version please" and "Not the woke edition".
I think the writing is on the wall for woke.

Apparently there will be two editions now. The rendered down version for small children and the full blown one for older children. I detest any attempt to change a word of an authors work. It simply should be illegal. It is illegal to fake fine art. It should be illegal to publish fake literature.any change in it makes it fake.

David Starkey tries to explain his concerns to a cult member.
They can't simply allow their ideas to compete in the public sphere. If the public makes the 'wrong' choice, they feel they have to reach in over their heads and make a correction.
They real question for me is how these peculiar intellectual hunchbacks end up in any sort of 'proxy parental' role over the general public.

What a noise for a discussion and the only one who looks as if they were MacDonalds customers was the woman author. Other than that, your assessment is correct and kids today are well aware of all the crap she wants to either keep quiet or re-educate on.

I guess the silent majority just can’t be arsed to do anything about children’s books they’ve probably never read, and just prefer to remain silent rather than being goaded into protesting about something they don’t understand. But those who feel their anti-woke hackles rising could do something other than sitting at home spluttering into their Benger’s….

I think the question is a bit broader than wether the public could / will do something about this particular case
Why has the public at large obtained an apparent new responsibility / duty to fend off assaults on established literature by people with severe psychiatric disorders?
It seems to be the core coordinator of the phenomena must be some aspect of the public sector. The thing to do is find exactly where this nonsense is originating from, if necessary, close down the entire department and empty the embryo vats
