Wishing all the Scots around here a very happy Burns night tonight as you celebrate the bard in the time-honoured tradition. Fareweel to a' our Scottish fame, Fareweel our ancient glory Fareweel ev'n to the Scottish name, Sae famed in martial story Now Sark rins over Solway sands An Tweed rins to the ocean To mark where England's province stands - Sic a parcel o rogues in a nation!
What force or guile could not subdue Through many warlike ages Is wrought now by a coward few For hireling traitor's wages The English steel we could disdain Secure in valour's station But English gold has been our bane - Sic a parcel o rogues in a nation!
O would, or I had seen the day That Treason thus could sell us, My auld grey head had lien in clay Wi Bruce and loyal Wallace! But pith and power, till my last hour I'll mak this declaration We're bought and sold for English gold - Sic a parcel o rogues in a nation!

Thank you Ripley, very good of you, now having read it I can see that it would appeal to a certain type of Scotsman, maudlin and grievance based, I much prefer William McGonagall whose poetry is more lively and less self pitying.

The whole point of the poem om , was burns lamenting the scottish lords who sold scotland into slavery in this disgusting union , mocking them as a parcel of rogues.
Talking about maudlin and grievance based, every post of yours on this forum about scotland is exactly that , and how you are crying into your warm bitter daily about the end of the onion.

Come on bentley , om has the warrior gene in him. If you upset him , he will be forced to drink bitter and put a dvd about dunkirk on.

I merely said that I enjoyed William McGonagall much more than I enjoyed Robert Burns, he seemed to enjoy life rather more.
Sold into slavery? You need your bumps felt.

You were an HQ squadron radio op that avoided drinking in the naafi in case you got bullied.
Now here you are on a political forum , squealing about a 232 year old poem that upsets your timid bwitish sensibilities.

No. Have another wild guess. What? A pen pushing bean counter that got a medal for sitting behind a desk playing the dam busters theme.?
anyway , heres a list of the parcel of rogues...
and the bribes they got from the english government....
Burns immortalised them in infamy.....

England was already bought and sold to a Scottish monarch. Shove your anti English xenophobia up your hairy arse.

Vinny , each day you sound more and more like a shell suit wearing intellectually and diet challenged southerner casting your aspersions on my celtic character.
We are merely discussing the bards greatness , and the meaning behind his parcel of rogues poem.
