What is the point of a Public Transport system that doesnt operate during unsocial hours? Why would it not operate during unsocial hours? Oh, its another troll question. π Maybe you should direct your research to those who live in the sticks. Our Public transport system is no more than a pathetic joke.

Our Public transport system is no more than a pathetic joke. Quite Some people seem to think everyone lives either in the town or city where they live or one just like it. Some of my friends say 'you should get a bus pass, gives you free travel on a bus' to which I respond 'what buses?' They were less than frequent when we moved here 40 years ago and they've got rarer and rarer since.

Interest rates are just one of a few very powerful tools which direct , for most of us, how much we consume after paying what we have to. Tax thresholds is another one. The government has certain levers it can pull but interest rates are both a response to the money supply and a regulator of it. The economy of any country depends on how much money the population has to spend. Government can affect part of it but the BoE controls how much that is for the average person and for decisions on where to invest. Investment is supported by banks and interest rates. Too high and business will invest somewhere else. That means more unemployment or lower wages and less demand. But putting up Mr & Mrs Jones mortgage by Β£100 each month will give them less disposable income.
In other words they wont be contributing towards the economy, say eating out helping the hospitality industry.
Buying clothes that help the retail industry.
Buying electrical goods and so on and so on, so by taking a extra Β£1200 a year of Mr & Mrs Jones in mortgage rises, its taking away Β£1200 they might otherwise spend, and there are millions of Mr & Mrs Jones who are stuck in that situation, so no idea how the BoE think it's helping by raising interest rates nearly every month, they are in fact helping destroy any chance of a boom in the economy and bringing down inflation.
The idea is that we buy less so the price goes down. We can't stop buying things but can choose a less expensive lifestyle. Unfortunately much of the inflation is because of a war elsewhere making energy to produce things and therefore "things" more expensive. The government can't do much about that since GB imports so much.and it has no spare money after what it spent on covid which is becoming even more to pay back because interest rates are going up and at the same time the value of the pound is going down. The only way out I can see is some miracle where GB makes something everyone wants and everyone starts investing in the country. But GB sold off most of its assets and means of production years ago and other countries prefer to invest where the best Scientists and markets are...the USA and the EU where access in and out is easier.

A βdecent wage βis subjective . Im not sure how many times there should be safety checks and in what context he has claimed this. I doubt that you know either. Somebody has got to work the β unsocial β hours . Wages have been falling for over a decade, that is not subjective. A wage that takes into account inflation would be a start. The rail companies want to reduce safety checks by 50%, check it out. So we 'force' people to work unsocial hours? Nobody should be forced to work shifts they have not agreed to. Doesnβt refute my point . Read my second sentence and make an effort to understand it . Same goes for third sentence .

The privately owned shareholders want less costs and more dividend. They don't care that disabled people need help getting on and off trains, can't buy a ticket online and haven't been able to talk to a real person to get information for years. What used to be a public SERVICE is now a financial cash cow.

But shops can't afford to put prices down, they need to make a profit to keep their heads above water.
Unless it's online, shops have to pay for their stock, rents/rates/energy bills and so on, they have to pass that on to the customer, so there is more chance they need to raise prices not drop them, if they drop their prices they go out of business, we buy less shops just go bust.

You're right, I didn't watch it. I was at work. If I've missed something, please feel free to contribute to the debate. FFS the origiinator of this thread Morgan stated what had been said. Am I allowed to mention rocket science? Hmm, the only reference to Starmer there is Morgan saying too many people on here slagging him off whilst ignoring what is happening. I think that your contributions of "leftie woke commies" to every thread without actually contributing to the debate means that he is talking about people like you. With regards to the five promises, as per the thread title, if there was something I missed, please feel free to detail it. And no, I didn't study rocket science, I'm not clever enough for that. π

No the doors were too narrow to get a wheelchair in with the person sat in them, some carriages on local trains did not had corridors so no loos , it is better today but still not adequate enough, wheelchair uses can only get on to the platforms of a few London Underground Stations as most don't have lifts. They need help to get into the carriage and out by members of staff if they can find any, usually its members of the Public that help them Same with over ground many wheelchair uses get stranded basically abandoned as no staff to help them on or off , or they can't find a portable ramp
