What the hell makes you think we would even let a Scotland hell bent on buggering off from the Union it voluntarily entered into centuries ago keep any link to the monarch of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland ? Although hang on a minute. When you entered into that union didn’t YOU impose YOUR king on US ? And if so - and look I’m about as much a monarchist as Jezza Corbyn so I don’t know the details - is the jerk with the big ears related to YOUR king ? James was a Stewart, and that line got broken long ago. Chopped in fact. I’ll be honest. I don’t. We did various bits of history in school up to 1973 covid Bering the Greeks, Spartans, Egyptians, Romans, Stone Age through Bronze Age etc but in 1973 we turned a sharp focus on British Social Economic and Political History 1760-1815 for the O Level and that was where I left it. My interest since then has focussed on local stuff like the fact the 1832 Reform Act was next to useless around here which is why the Chartist Movement found such ready volunteers to die in the name of democracy but in terms of wider events outside that time line I’m not remotely informed. |

James was a Stewart, and that line got broken long ago. Chopped in fact. The last Stewart monarch was Queen Anne who died in 1714. It is interesting that as she had no children, the chosen successor was the Empress Sophia of Hanover. She was the niece of Charles I and a cousin of James VII. So, in a way the Stewart line continued. |

We were taken into the Union because of the self-interest of a majority of the Estates. The monarchy represents Scotland as well as the rUK so, it will continue - hope not - when we gain our freedom from colonial rule. There was no 'imposition' it was your upper classes who chose him Who exactly is our King in your mind? |
