Yeh thats why England lost its AAA rating. Standards and Poor say different about Scotland dont know if you saw this jaydee....
Not only did I see it. I have been more than aware of it since the days of Thatcher. That is why the McRone report was classified for 3 decades en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCrone_report

ok but we have been over this argument before. If being in a union for scotland is of vital importance to stuff like joint defense and free trade , why do we need a union with england?
NATO , or military alliances with a potential european defence force is of far more importance , and same goes for free trade with 27 european nations. But the vast majority of Scotlands 'foreign' trade is with England. And if you believe all the scenarios put forward by the remain camp during the Brexit debate (gravity model of trade etc), putting barriers between Scotland and England would lead to a 6% reduction on Scotlands GDP per capita. That is of course if you believed all the arguments for staying in the EU.. Not including oil and gas, Scotland sold £86.4 billion in goods and services to England. England sold £93.4 billions in goods and services to Scotland. Scotland in terms of countries is England's largest trading partner with exports to Scotland greater than to Brazil, South Africa, Russia,. India, China and Japan put together. Scotland is the only UK nation to have exported more goods internationally than it has imported every year since records began. In terms of exports per head, Scotland outperforms the UK: Scotland exports £17,455 per head per year, while England exports £8,626 per head per year. Scotland is an exporting powerhouse, whose success has had nothing to do with being part of the UK, but whose future has been jeopardised due to the UK taking Scotland out of the European Union.. . In contrast, England's international trade deficit in goods is massive. It is only 20% of its econmy. That is why he likes of Germany do 4 times more trade with the likes of China than he UK. Brexit has hit Scotland worse than England. Because it exports more as England relies on 80% of its economy on financial services. That is only as good as the next crash and coming to a street near you. You are still paying for the last one. Research by the Centre for Business Prosperity at Aston University has shown that UK exports to the EU fell by an average of 22.9% in the first 15 months after the introduction of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement, highlighting the continuing challenges that UK firms are facing. The UK has also experienced a significant contraction in the variety of goods being exported to the EU, with an estimated loss of 42% of product varieties. In short That is why the fish and farming industry no longer bother exporting to the EU. The cost of the so called cut in red tape promised by the lying wankers in Westminster, and the sunny uplands has quadrupled. On top of that the OBR have predicted that Breix will be a bigger hit than COvid. A drop of 4% in the UK. More than 6% in Scotland as part of the UK. Trade and industry is retained. It is coming to fruition. How bad do you need it if you believe Brexit was wonderful. As you highlight another reason why energy rich Scotland can no longer afford bankrupt England.

Forget the nonsense peddled by the loony leftie SNP retards, see om this is where you and i normally part company , and shows with respect a complete lack of understanding of scottish independence.
Scot indy isnt about a single party , person , or left or right politics. Its above all that.
You are letting your sentimentality cloud the discussion as ever.
He simply rants undiluted Jock hating bile. He does not possess the ability to debate. Or has one scoobie of Scottish politics. He has this constant need to make a total fool of himself. Why? Defies the hell out of me. Nothing gets through to him.

Standard practice in terms of the london elite and how they behaved with the old empire. Gaining a captive audience and forcing them to trade on the london elites terms and to their benefit.
The eu was already a bigger customer to scotland than the rUK for scotlands distilled spirits , fuels , chemicals computers ,pharamceuticals ,and optical components and the list was growing.
Without getting into yet another brexit argument , i was merely throwing om`s argument back at him on why if a union is needed , we wouldnt want it to be with the bigger more stronger union in europe than a country that is nothing more than a declining regional power?
i dont know if i told you this , but i voted to remain in 2016. I am and remain a lukewarm pro european .

Polls show scotland would be more than willing to have a hard border with england to stay in the EU.
According to our recent Panelbase poll, it turns out that a hard border at Berwick and Gretna is a price that Scottish voters are – by a margin of more than two to one – willing to pay to stay in the EU.
Further , Ireland became independent of the uk in 1922. Since joining the old EEC in 1973 , its trade with the uk has doubled , but its trade with the EU is five times greater than its trade with the uk. Im not sure why ireland can be successfull outside the uk , but scotland couldnt ?

I don't think the McCrone report has much relevance today, it was written fifty years ago when the economic landscape was much different in Scotland. Yes, the vast oil revenues would have created great wealth in Scotland had all the profits and tax revenues gone to Scotland rather than the entire UK. However, this graph below shows that in 50 years the manufacturing jobs have gone down significantly and therefore much of this wealth would have been used to compensate for this. Scotland’s economy was changed fundamentally by deindustrialisation in the second half of the 20th century. Between 1951 and 2021, over 70,000 mining and quarrying jobs disappeared, and more than half a million people stopped working in factories and workshops . If there is currently any validity of the contents of the McCrone report then the SNP should clearly define the situation, but they don't, presumably because they are unable to because the facts don't stack up, or because it is beyond them to do so. I have said many times on this forum that no doubt an Independent Scotland could make a go of it, but not with the current politicians that it has chosen to lead them. I have yet to see the SNP make an intellectual argument for independence, merely aggressive and meaningless sound bites for their supporters, which as we see these soundbites make there way on to this forum. Much of Scotland's wealth at the moment is dependent on it's inclusion in the UK, much investment in Scotland, particularly banking and financial services, comes from UK based Companies, it will not be easy to maintain that situation if Scotland becomes a separate EU member state, so whilst there may be validity in the quoted statistics regarding the exports Scotland currently enjoys, there is no guarantee that this would continue without the investment available from UK firms.

You don't Tommy.
All you need do is to stop making excuses and to get your fellow countrymen to vote for independence. So get up, clear away the Irn Bru fumes from your head and start canvassing.

Across the watter in independent ireland , since leaving behind the uk and london rule , Ireland is one of the worlds wealthiest countries , $200 bn of global banking has moved to ireland since brexit , the irish are among the worlds healthiest people and the irish pasport is ranked 6 in the world for visa free travel and access. Which is why so many of your politicians allegedly have one.
Independence for scotland looks increasingly appealing to many.
The pendulum will swing , but eventually , the duck tape holding your union together is going to finally snap , as it has done in 62 other nations.

no osbourne and cameron went over and begged the irish to bail out some of their banks , because the knock on effect of the intertwined global banks would have had a disasterous effect on london and the uk economy.
Many irish wanted to follow iceland , jail bankers and let some of these banks fail , but the yanks convicned them to take the small british loan , which they quickly paid off they are that rich , while cameron and osbourne took the queen over while falling over themselves to apologise to the irish for all those little past misunderstandings you british have had with them.
The arse licking at the time had the irish media in stitches , along with many of the restof the world.
The question is om though , if london rule is preferable , why arent the irish asking to rejoin?

Much of that lies in the waters off Shetland, who have unequivocally stated that in the unlikely case of Scottish independence they intend to remain a Crown Dependency of the United Kingdom, (understandably). Another complication not addressed by the SNP.
No idea, nor have I any idea why the Scots voted to remain in the UK.

Stop talking garbage. On its own Scotland would be one of the most wealthiest and richest countries in the world. I have just pointed out on its own England would still be around the 5th or 6th largest economy in the world. But in terms of wealth it would be between the 28th and 38th Richest country in the world. That is bog standard third world. As you confuse LARGEST with RICHEST. On its own England would still be the 14th Richest country in Europe. Bog standard poor. For your information Ireland is the 3rd Richest country in Europe. So stop your nonsense. In terms of the crash. That is because England relies to much on financial services. Some 80% of its economy. It has a hopeless trade deficit. And Paris now outstrips London in financial services. And it looks like they will stop passporting. Edinburgh is the 4th largest financial centre in Europe. Unlike bankrupt England does not rely on it. Or oil. Scotland can now power itself on wind alone twice over. The variety of its economy has been explained to you. But as usual with you its like trying to tell a brick wall it is not a Ferrari. And the next crash is coming. In 2021 the UK (England) had a PSBR of £321.9 billion. That is more than double than when they took power. The Tory's have doubled the debt and the PSBR as you rant what On top of running a £800 billion QE problem. That your grandkids grand kids grand kids will have to pay back. With a up and coming energy crises coming in at around £600 billion. On a product that Scotland exports by the bucket load. As you rant what would Labour do. I have a better idea. You tell me what would they do. The UK is now the worst performing economy in the G7. Only Russia is worse. England now the sick man of Europe.. Again and dragging Scotland with it. Or put it another way. Scotland can no longer afford bankrupt England. And for your information and for the 100th time. All that has happened to Scotland from the lying wankers in Westminster, if Scotland left the Union. Has happened while Scotland is in the Union. Then in desperation two weeks ago. As a vote to change the act regarding Section 30. It was flooded out in desperation by English Tories resulting in a no at 290 to 40. www.edudwar.com/richest-countries-in-europe/ .

Hi Om15 You seem to keep ignoring my point that one's opinion on the constitution should take place outside any consideration of the competence or otherwise of administrations in London and Edinburgh. I don't know where you get your ideas about Shetland from. They are not exactly fans of the Edinburgh administration but have an even lower opinion of that in London. I have family and friends in shetland and assure yoi of that. Besides independent Scotland would give them far more autonomy and power than the uk ever has. Finally my OP did not say that scotland gets no investment, just that it doesn't get enough as uk priority is to invest in London. For understandable reasons, but true nevertheless.
