It's not just Tesla's Anyone who pokes about on ArseBook canot fail to have seen the advertising push MG are making for the lomg range Estate version of the car, yours for a king's ransom and abe to do about 300 miles according to the WLTP figures which are made up almost as badly as Volkswagen Diesel Emissions figures But regardless of what the makers or the jokers releasing these WLTP figures say, the buyers found a bit of a problem Shortly agfter these cars hit the shwrooms and then the roads there was a cold snap. As a result the max range shrank to about 100 miles AND STAYED THERE As in, when it warmed up you couldnlt get any more than that 100 miles MG were forced to put out a rather embarrassing admission that the only way to fix this was to let the car get to zero miles or as good as and ten charge it up NOT on the high speed charge but on the 3 pin plug 13A charger supplied as te charger of last resort. Which would take most of the weekend. The EV fundys get really pissed off if you mention this though That's amazing, can't be battery memory (unless they're using NiCads) so must be crap Chinese software But E-Cars do significantly less miles per charge in Winter. Two reasons 1. Us petrol/diesel drivers use the waste heat from the engine to heat the car. There is no such waste heat from the electric so they have to use charge from the battery to electrically heat the car 2. Much less daylight and more fog means the headlights are on for most of the driving so they (and rear screen heaters etc) are happilly draining the battery We're seeing about 20% less miles per charge in Mrs K's PHEV, not a range anxiety issue because it's not pure electric but further reasons why we will fight pure electric for ever. Exactly Nicads have to be deep cycled prior to charging to get maximum performance from them......But here is another snippet that those who support Litheum batteres ignore........What is Deep and Shallow Charging? A Lithium battery has a lifespan of 300 to 500 charging cycles. Assume that a full discharge can give Q capacity. Lithium batteries can deliver or supplement 300Q-500Q power in total over their lifetime if the capacity decline after every charging cycle is not taken into account. We can charge 600-1000 times if we use half of the capacity each time and 2400-4000 times if we use 1/8 each time. Consequently, if you charge at random, the number of times you charge is unpredictable. In essence, no matter how a Lithium battery is charged, a total of 300Q to 500Q of power is always added. Consequently, we may conclude that the life of a Lithium battery is proportional to the battery's overall charge, not to the number of charges. Deep charge and shallow charging have similar impacts on lithium battery life..
I know when they stated using litheum in aviation the batteries were scrapped after 500 either shallow or deep charged or scrapped at 5 years which ever came first.....And then try and get anyone to collect them as waste no one wants to know as they are not recyclable unlike nicad which can fetch a fortune and collected for free.

You do know that the UK is banning them exactly the same time don't you and in fact banning pure combustion engine cars from sale from 2030? It's not just the EU As to your points I agree them all and add to that the shear hypocrisy of not addressing the big polluters of trucks and cargo ships at same time. It's all about shallow politicians making gestures rather than leading with robust policies - both here and in the EU countries. IMHO this will be like the ban on FM and AM radio stations that was supposed to come in by 2015. Well it didn't because it was equally not thought through Of course the MASSIVE elephant in your room is this bollox was started here while we were hogtied by the EU. We have the ability to throw this madness in the shitter where it belongs. No EU Citizen can.
