Yes, I'm also curious what Labour's plans are for 'working with France' that hasn't already been tried and abandoned. We all recall the hoohah that attended the closure of Sangatte which was supposed to solve the 'problem' when Labour was last running the show. What many people don't know is Labour's solution entailed transporting the great majority of Sangatte's 'residents' to the UK and giving them four-year work permits with benefits. 1,100 is the approximate figure for those allowed to come over, following that, Boris wanted to do, similarly.

I do hope that we are transporting the dinghies back to France so that they can be re-used, for ecological reasons.

I do hope that we are transporting the dinghies back to France so that they can be re-used, for ecological reasons. They should be given to charitable organisations around the world to help with the severe flooding caused by climate change. Destroying them would be counterproductive in terms of CO2 output.

Charity should start at home. There are plenty of underprivileged children in the UK, who would love a rubber dinghy as a Christmas present

The French will only work with others if it is to their advantage and done their way, they are happy to see the rubber boats sail away another 20 or so people off their soil which they didn't want in the first place

I heard that according to some arcane Law of the Sea they have be kept for safekeeping in case their rightful owners turn up to claim them back.

It's even more bizarre than I remembered. Safeguarding smugglers' property in case they want it back isn't something imposed by some long-forgotten international agreement, or even by 'Brussels' but it's something dreamt up by the Blairites in legislation dating from 2007. "Under Section 26 of the UK Borders Act 2007 and the Immigration Disposal of Property Regulations 2008, goods must be stored at Queen’s Warehouses for 12 months." www.thetimes.co.uk/article/storing-migrant-boats-has-cost-the-taxpayer-500-000-in-a-year-dn9qbg3b7

What a waste of money.
