We are starting to see a good experiment to test whether people want (are prepared) to pay more Tax. Scotlands latest announcement of a rise in tax rates is starting to put clear blue water between them and England - so it will be interesting to see what the implications are for revenue raising in Scotlend.

Income tax in Scotland has been about £1500 more for someone earning £50k for at least the last three tax years. Has it had any impact on tax collection in those years? Why do you feel it will now?

It doesn't matter, Scotland has become a one-issue country.
No matter how shit the SNP are they can just fall back on their default populist position of "it is England's fault".
Having another populist argument to tax the rich more isn't going to harm them one bit... even if it doesn't work as intended they can still "blame the English".

I've just been listening to a Scottish chap talking about this, he said it will add £35 a month to his tax bill. He claimed to be an SNP supporter and said this will not enhance SNP support. He wasn't a rabid anti English racist. He came cross as very Scottish and very calm and thoughtful tbh, nothing like JD. I cant remember where he was from off hand, he sounded more Edinburgh than Glasgow.

Any data on tax receipts so far is going to be worthless as it will be impossible to determine what was due to the effects of the pandemic and what was due to personal action. Now we are back to normal and have a measurable tax gap between Scotland and England then hopefully we will see what effects (if any) there will be for the collection of taxes.

I suspect the reality is there are so many variables that it will be impossible to tell either way Pacifico. That I am sure will not stop those with an agenda either way twisting the numbers to prove their point.
To be honest I hadn't realised Scotland had diverged to that extent particularly on the band threshholds. Making decisions reasonably locally seems a good idea in general. I think I welcome that at least.
