There is a thread that gun crime was actually down while hysteria over such is at fever pitch, which got me thinking. Many years ago a researcher in psychiatry had an approach to assessing mental health within families who had one or more mentally ill member.
He found that the expression of feelings by the carer had a profound influence on the ill member of the family. For instance, the ill member makes a mistake, or whatever, leaves a mess, the carer shows overt anger or abuse, criticism. We all know what its like being in the firing line.
He found that lowering expressed emotion had a profound impact on re-admission rates, that there is a big difference. Of course that requires a therapist, in the old days there were psychiatric community nurses, none now, that were trained in lowering negative emotions.
This now applies to politics, all is greeted by hysteria, anger, a sense of chaos, amplified by tv papers, expressed emotion is dangerously high, which blinds us to the true picture, indeed high expressed emotion is a weapon used by all politicians. Getting a true picture of anything is impossible, all is contradicted, we are plunged into chaos, no one knows thee truth about anything.
Question time on the BBC is a good example, that its permanently febrile, indeeed im sure its stoked when things get dull. Indeed, the left are experts at violent emotions, its their job, revolution cant occur in stability, calmness.
