In the Telegraph today their Headline
" A“criminal empire” of people smugglers is at work on the continent, Sir Keir Starmer has warned, as he prepares for talks with other European leaders on fighting illegal migration.
Who knew ? he really is quick off the mark

As has been alluded to earlier, combating people smuggling gangs is not possible by the UK alone. It takes international cooperation — possibly without too much detail being given by the authorities. But there have been some successes in which the UK has played a major role. Eighteen members of a people-smuggling gang accused of arranging thousands of small boat English Channel crossings have been jailed in France. The group - which prosecutors described as "merchants of death" - comprised mostly of Iraqi Kurds and were prosecuted after a Europe-wide operation in 2022 which led to arrests in Britain, France, Germany and the Netherlands. Mirkhan Rasoul, the gang's ringleader, was jailed for 15 years…. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5yrg1kqzl2o

Starmer has as much chance of stopping people smuggling gangs as he has of stopping drug smuggling gangs. It's not going to happen. But I have to say, stopping people smuggling gangs even if it were possible, would not stop illegals crossing the channel.
Stopping illegals entering this country from the EU will only be possible when we have a government who want to stop it, a government who physically stop illegals entering UK territorial waters, which under international law is perfectly legal. Unfortunately the political will to enforce international law is not there. Yet.

It's not hard to see why they flock to the UK - I did like the TV on the wall in the bathroom so you can relax whilst watching Eastenders.

Couldn't agree more, unfortunately the political will is not there to make the UK an unattractive destination. The EU house illegals, asylum seekers, refugees call them what you will, in tents and containers. The UK government house them in comfortable hotels and fully furnished flats while providing them will free mobile phones and cash benefits. If I was an illegal living in a tent in Calais I'm pretty sure I'd find a way to get to to the land of milk and honey, and that's the governments fault.

When we get people who have already been granted asylum in other European countries coming to the UK and claiming asylum again just because they get more handouts here, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that the system is broken.

I think Sir Kier mentioned this in his Monday press conference. It requires a new security agreement with the EU. Guarantee the response on this forum to that one...

Give them a break, they've been in power 3 months and had a lot to deal with. Indeed, who would have thought a government could become this unpopular after just three months. As for Starmers approval rating, what is it -39 (That's minus 39). The lowest approval rating of any sitting prime minister, ever. This is what you get for lying your way into power.
