Seems it wasn't just one of Boris's madder fixations, following Keir Starmer's Samoan jamboree the Labour government is also planning to increase the UK's naval presence in the region in order to counter Chinese 'incursions' into the area. And, in particular, to protect the sovereignty of small island nations.
Apparently China’s tactics of offering policing services has raised concern and Beijing is persistently wooing the islands with increased investment and participation in infrastructure and tourism.
In other news, another small island nation is also threatened by unwanted foreign incursions but without the promise of a beefed-up naval presence:
PS this thread would normally have been placed in World View

PS this thread would normally have been placed in World View The tendency for China to extend its borders of influence can't be ignored. I guess a few people expected over night miracles on the world problem of Asylum seekers.

Why is that a concern of ours? No other European countries are getting embroiled in America's imperial adventures, so why should we? What business is it of ours what China does in its own backyard?
As for asylum-seekers, Labour promised to fix the problem but they have only made it worse.

We left the EU so that we can have better relations with non EU countries. Instead the US treats us with contempt and the commonwealth wants to shake us down .
