We are talking about aviation - Chinese Aircraft are reliant on US software, they refuse to use Chinese systems. Harmony OS might be great in a home PC but in safety critical systems... Harmony OS is interesting because it has a microkernel architecture so it can run on any computer and abstract the operation of it. It started off with a lot of Linux code in it, but they are rewriting it so it is all new code. The idea is one size fits all. I think the reliability of such software comes down to the user base. A large user base will give the system a much more rigorous testing than some specialist top secret code. So perhaps it is not such a stupid thing. They write the code and then one can swap in and out different computers and know the thing will work identically in all cases.
Way back in the past one would never wish to run a critical system in Windows, as the OS had a mind of its own and could serve up some nasty surprises, but we live in a different age now. Nearly 300 Vulnerabilities Patched in Huawei’s HarmonyOS in 2022.....Huawei is banned all across the globe because it is nothing more than chinky spyware..

You really don't have a clue. You are trolling, plain and simple. What is so difficult to understand about that? You post a load of irrelevant crap and go for a personal attack like you always do. What you have not come here for is any interest in the subject under discussion. You are what you do. If you were an expert you would have spent your time studying it, not dicking about. You are the troll. I deal with hard facts. Can't you grasp that?

There's nothing about spyware in there. I think the way to do it is make the 5G navigation system network secure. 5G has very high security. The other point is you only use a part of the OS. Mobile systems are a completely different user case. Building an internet firewall is difficult because it has so many protocols, so many ways to potentially hack the system. Anyway, they are building this system as we speak, so it looks like the job has already been done. The Chinese tend to use Linux a lot, so perhaps this is the OS they use. Harmony may replace Linux in China, but it is still pretty new right now. Linux started in the days of the 386. Harmony was a side project they had at Huawei, but was made into a full blown OS from 2019 onwards, so it is starting life in a completely different computer age.

Why do you think it was banned in the USA and UK Baron? They had the contract to roll out 5G until it was discovered that it would be monitered in China.

Since the ban, which was for commercial reasons, the US firms have failed to roll out 5G and now China is using 5.5G. 5.5G is a much faster version so it is enabling far more sophisticated applications of technology. The other reason the US banned it was because it was too secure. They could not use it for eavesdropping like they have done for decades. The US spies on the telecom networks to pick up commercial data. This was the reason for Echelon.
What I suggest is the UK stops pissing in the wind and collaborates with China to build the future of transport. Either we do or we drop out of the technology race and just get employed as servants to rich Chinese people.

Thing I have actually been there a few times - part of my job but he seems to refute that.

250 miles is the threshold at which train travel begins to make more sense rather than tangle with the nose-to-tail traffic on Britain's chronically congested roads which have to be shared with five million or so trucks. I wish it did, it should. But the train journey from Cambridge to Taunton is both expensive and protracted.

From what I hear, the 5G in China is a lot better than the US. Their version of 5G is more like 4.5G. I can't confirm this, but it is what i hear from those who live in the two different countries.

You said. "If you only drive 50 miles a week then range of 100 miles is fine" Your example is flawed because it uses unreal numbers to imply there is a reasonable failure point. I counter with "If you only drive 150 miles a day then 250 miles is fine. " "If you drive the average 18 miles a day 250 miles is fine" "If you only drive 300 miles twice a year 250 miles if fine" It wasn’t flawed . I never stated any vehicle. I merely used a low range figure to match a low mileage need. Your problem is that you can’t refute it so you construct a false flaw to discredit it. My point stands . You are unable to refute it . Edit ..well well well . Looks like zany was talking out of his arse The Citroën Ami electric vehicle has a range of up to 46 miles on a full charge NEW CITROËN AMI 100% ËLECTRIC It’s official! AMI is coming to the UK! We asked you if you wanted AMI and the answer was a resounding ‘Yes!’. With a fully electric WLTP range of up to 45 miles and a top speed of 28 mph, AMI is made for our cities. And you can reserve yours today! So there ARE low range EV Auto express agreements with me too. Maybe Zany needs a word with them www.autoexpress.co.uk/opinion/365048/ps10k-electric-car-100-mile-range-would-surely-be-sales-successlol. The Citroen AMI HaHaHaHaHaHaha

Huawei have just got a patent for sulphide-based solid state batteries.
Expected to be 600-800Wh/kg, fast charging and immune to catching fire.
See that number increase. CATL have 500Wh/kg solid in the pipeline, but solid state can theoretically achieve 1000Wh/kg.
See the range anxiety for EVtols gradually disappear.
