But you were the one who claimed that as were not sufficient in any number of essential items then one more wouldn’t matter because we could buy it from abroad . So why farm at all? We could just import it . Because the more we make ourselves the less we import. I was arguing that we were already not self sufficient and using 1% more land to give young people somewhere to live would have virtually no effect on that. You are arguing that young people shouldn't have decent lives so you can buy 1% more food from England. But I'll bet you don't even think about where your cucumber was grown. You just don't want more houses for the young so you can keep the nice high price your home which you bought far cheaper is now worth. Pull the other one, Zany: You're wedded to your low-wage, exploitative business model that you wish to perpetuate hence your interest in cheap housing for your, mostly imported, cheap workforce.
And it seems that I'm not the only one who can see through your virtue-signalling bullcrap.

Oh dear it seems now that the EUSSR's ECO bollocks caused the floods in Spain... Huge floods in Spain caused by the EUSSR's ECO madness ....The same as the UK’s floods and devastation in Devon and Cornwall when the EUSSR were paying farmers to get rid of trees on river banks. The reason we have flooding in the UK is the EU decided that waste from ditches is to be treated as contaminated, So the farmers stoped cleaning them out. Yet another EUSSR gift
Monster looney EUSSR party, Labour are going the same way, chop down trees to pave way for solar farms and wind turbines on arable farmland where crops were growing, but now farmers are probably going to be deserting regards Rachel and the Budget.www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14060943/eu-dam-river-flow-spain-flood-cheste-valancia.html

Bentley, it's not exactly a secret that the EU want to close down farms. Did you miss the farmers protests in Holland, Belgium and France earlier this year. It is also no secret that Starmers left wing government are very pro EU or that Monte is a raving lefty. No, they want to reduce livestock, not close farms. Labours inheritance tax changes will reduce the the number of farms we have, so Milliband can use agricultural land for his wind/solar farms.

This Labour Government has only been in power for a matter of months, and yet they've already collected a stack of broken promises.
They promised to protect pensioners, but instead one of their first acts was to scrap the Winter Fuel Payments for 10 million of them.
They promised not to raise taxes on working people, but last week they delivered a Budget with a record-breaking tax hike which will leave the average household £770 poorer by the end of Parliament.....

No. I’m saying that the loss of farmland should not be written off as irrelevant or unimportant. The rest of your post is accusations made up in your head because I’ve never suggested it. Yes, ofcourse I made it up, just as you made up the crap about my thinking. I was just pointing out to you that its not nice. I certainly am not writing off farmland as unimportant. I put a deal of thought into the process, hence my knowledge of where Solar farms are allowed to be placed, my knowledge of fallow land. My desire to help farmers by letting them build on land that doesn't do well for crops. British farmers have to compete on a world market, so if they cannot get a return on the cost of growing a crop on a piece of land, it sits fallow. Its no good them going to the supermarkets and saying my veg is more expensive because the land I grow it on is poor and difficult to manage. The supermarket will just buy their veg from France.

No amount of trees would have stopped that amount of water. Boscastle was an unfortunate combination of two massive storms that happened at the same time over two rivers that fed into the same town. A genuine once in a 100 year event. BTW Daily mail grunt, its the farmers who apply to build solar farms not the Labour party. You are proposing they stop farmers who want to do this. And you claim to be on the farmers side.

Otherwise I have to assume Miliband does know considerably more than you.
