I say British democracy because 1) it is the forum where the demos discuss political matters, not just party political matters. and 2) it has to comply with Westminster statutory law to operate here. Youtube itself started out as a waste of time because the technology was crap and you could hardly play a video, to now becoming the monopoly in video accessible on the web. It's easy to stupidly say, oh well if you don't like it, then don't watch it, but that neglects the fact that in the days of online, if you search on just about any topic on Google and click on video then you will see how nearly every video is Youtube, all down the list, or if it is not, it might be a 10 second clip on Tiktok or Twitter or something.
My personal observations are as follows. In the last 20-30 years we have seen a massive decline in face to face social activity. Many pubs have shut down, most of the nightclubs and private clubs and groups and now likely we will see restaurants go the same way. in order for the demos to discuss politics and operate as a democracy they must be able to communicate. I don't use the other social media platforms from Uncle Sam, but I have a long experience in Youtube. A few years back I would say it was at its golden age. Comments were fairly free as long as you didn't do something really naughty that is the kind of thing the barman would throw you out for and we got a pretty clear picture of folk from all over the country. You could have chats in a similar way with any nationality, just by going to the video relating to it, so it brought a lot of understanding of different cultures.
As with anything that is good, and I've seen it with the clubs which at one time were bursting at the seams with excitement and popularity, the bastards in Westminster come in, turn the music off, stand there flanked by dumb cops announcing in an arrogant voice what we can and can't do. That's the kind of people they are. They hate freedom and love to see the population suffer, like psychopaths in fact. So as I had expected really, the party was never going to last. Now they have banned half the clubbers and pub goers, deselecting the ones who brought the most joy and excitement to the party, and now the people don't dance and stare at their iphones at £10 a pint for pisswater. OK a bit of artistic licence here but you get the feeling I'm trying to put across. Social media has been killed off. The comments left are like those in Mao's time of cultural revolution. You are not allowed to put any intelligence on sensitive subjects forwards. You can talk to your heart's content about cake mixes though. Youtube is now effectively dead. It's a zombie in fact, like sill alive but does not have a soul. It is as bland as fuck.
But you know people will want to get out and about sometime to meet others you know, and it seems the new rock and roll is violent protests. I wonder if they have the MP's addresses!
