I don't quite follow... How much have this couple saved taxpayers?.. Had they let the stowaway out in a laybye and said nothing, what do you think would have happened next? How do you think he might have supported himself? I'm assuming that anyone with the means to support himself would have flown into the country instead of stowing away in a stranger's van. Do you not think he just might have become a quite long term burden to the taxpayer had he succeeded in entering the country that way? Unbelievable. If they let him out in some layby, then he would have been picked up and placed in some hotel for a year or so at the tax payers expense (currently £15 million a day) and he will without a doubt be a long term burden on the taxpayer, as will millions of his buddies, few of whom speak English and fewar still have any love of this country. We are the biggest mugs in the world.

We are the biggest mugs in the world. You're assuming he will get to stay. I'm assuming he will be removed. Then you're naive. The chances of an illegal immigrant ever been deported from the UK is at best, remote, that's why millions of them are illegally entering this once great country. Once tax payer funded charities and human rights lawyers have coached them, they're laughing. After an extended stay in a hotel they are pushed to the front of the housing queue. And did you notice when it comes to housing, Starmer himself could not guarantee that British armed forces veterans who were living in shop doorways would get priority over immigrants. He said that was up to local authorities. What an utter wanker. This poxy socialist government is a one term fiasco.

The Tories didn't do much about it either, did they? No they didn't, does that make it OK?.. No. It's not OK. It will never be okay for armed forces veterans to have to sleep in shop doorways. But it's also not entirely Starmer's fault. He just came to power five minutes ago. The Tories have had years in which to address the problem and haven't solved it.

The Tories have had years in which to address the problem and haven't solved it. The Tories did indeed have years to solve it, and didn't. But there is this nagging feeling that says Labour will be worse. The Rwanda plan might not have been brilliant, although it must be said other countries are now looking at it with more than a hint of enthusiasm. And even though it cost £240 million Starmer immediately scrapped it and replaced it with... nothing. Starmer may arguably have been a good human rights lawyer, but on a prime-ministerial level, he is failing to reach the low standards most people expected. He will be lucky to be a 12 month prime minister.

Labour will try to take credit for any drop in the illegal boats to be given to them, when in reality the rest of the EU are waking up to just how bad and dangerously out of control open boarders have become.
So before Labour try to take any credit for any drop in the illegal boat people, it will be down to the fact that the stem of flow is down to the rest of the EU securing its borders, which has been a long time coming, but in the mean time they will be frantically trying to offload as many as they can to the UK, so the French Dinghy service will be in full swing before the winter seas slow the stem.

You have to wonder why governments of different political persuasions appear reluctant to end the madness. Solving the problem is of the utmost importance, though, and at the end of the day that is more important than who gets the credit, I would think.

It's become a taboo subject, anyone who dares mention the illegal boat people are instantly branded far-right racists.
This is one reason all political parties are reluctant to tackle the problem head on, they are 'all' tip toeing around in fear of the woke snowflake lefties branding them far-right racists, time to stop this nonsense and bowing to the lefty loons, illegal migration in the UK is completely and utterly out of hand, it is now a matter of Emergency and security.
Bring in Martial law and deport every illegal migrant who has paid people traffickers to enter the UK, they have engaged in illegal activity, they are fully aware that entering the UK via a illegal route and paying criminals to do so makes them criminals, and therefore they can not be considered for UK citizenship. .... it's not rocket science.

I just can't believe that fear of offending half of the electorate is causing politicians from both parties to choose to exert no controls over immigration. Rather than blame the left, you should be blaming the spineless politicians for their disgraceful ineptitude and demanding they act responsibly. What they're doing is handicapping the NHS and the transportation services, and ruining everyone's quality of life in myriad other ways as well. If they are choosing this route, that is entirely unacceptable.

They are all guilty as charged, Tories, Labour Lib-dems, the illegal boat people the subject is off limits, every UK political party avoids detailing how they are going to deal with the 'crisis'.
The gagging order has to be lifted and the far-right labeling of any political party who dares tackle it has to be STOP now.
It is NOT racist and it is NOT far-right to want to control your homeland borders, Farage has been closed down, Sunak, Starmer, and Davey have all so be warned not to mention illegal migrants or they'll be branded far-right racist just like Farage .... this Blackmail has to stop and the threat of being branded far-right racists if they dare mention the illegal boat people crisis has to STOP now.
