Starmer and Reeves won't back down because in their minds it would show weakness. The idea that it was a difficult decision means that accepting 10s of £1000s for clothes was very much easier, as was the £9000 increase for train drivers and the 22% for Doctors. They've stated the triple lock gives pensioners an extra £450 next May, but the assistance payment that was received last year and the loss of the winter fuel payment and the increase in energy costs from this October means that the triple lock payment has already been wiped out. Unfortunately, Starmer and Reeves don't do maths, except when it comes to rewarding Union barons. 2TKeir ignores Labour's winter fuel revolt: Cabinet ally insists ministers 'don't have the luxury of ducking difficult choices' despite unions humiliating PM with conference vote against axe to pensioners' energy bills cash......today ignored an internal party revolt against his Government's decision to strip millions of pensioners of their winter fuel payments. The Prime Minister suffered a major embarrassment on the final day of Labour's conference in Liverpool after party delegates voted to reverse the cuts. Sir Keir was given the symbolic bloody nose by trade union leaders as the conference backed their motion calling for the reinstatement of universal winter fuel payments......But, despite the humiliating vote result, party chiefs and Cabinet ministers insisted the Government would plough on with the policy to restrict payments to only those pensioners on means-tested benefits. Health Secretary Wes Streeting said he and fellow Labour MPs 'don't have the luxury of ducking the difficult choices and decisions'. He again blamed a £22billion 'black hole' in the public finances, which Labour claim they inherited from the previous Tory government, for the need to save money. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13889899/Unions-embarrass-Keir-Starmer-Labour-conference-votes-winter-fuel-payment.html

Starmer can’t back down over the heating allowance because he would appear weak . Instead has to live with a decision that highlights his inability to read his own party and millions of voters .

Starmer can’t back down over the heating allowance because he would appear weak . Instead has to live with a decision that highlights his inability to read his own party and millions of voters . Starmer had no intentions of gaining power to serve millions of voters, Starmer wanted power to serve Starmer, his first and only agenda is cosying back up with the EU, it's got his undivided attention, and the only time he might relent on the pensioner winter allowance is if the EU instructed him, he is now going to spend every hour of every day he is in office 110% dedicated to tying us back up with the EU, anything else he has little or no interest in.

Starmer should have taken the pole out of his arse and laughed that off immediately.

I thought I'd start a thread exclusively to report on the trials and tribulations of our splendid leader, which can be updated by anyone as events happen. So here goes: www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/keir-starmer-defends-20000-accommodation-33745898Keir Starmer has said he accepted £20,000 from Tory peer Lord Alli during the General Election campaign because his home was besieged by journalists and his son needed to revise. Oh and by the way, do NOT do a search for The Daily Starmer on the internet. I did because I thought someone else might have already come up with the idea, and got a surprise! Looks like nothing more than an opportunity for the continuation of the Tory 'Dark / Black Legend' approach to politics.

So what was the unrelenting criticism and lampooning of Tory politicians during the last government ? The Labour white legend approach?

Name us one Labour government where it's own members turned on it, what ever you say about the righties and the Tories, never ever have the Tories, Lib-dems held a conference where they were more unpopular with their own members than they were with the opposition.
As usual the Tories nowhere to be seen who could be scoring political points and climbing the political ladder capitalising on Labour's shambles, the Tories should be right on top of this now, milking it for all its worth, just like Starmer/Rayner did with Covid ........ where the fuck are the Tories?? missing in action as usual.

I'm not defending the tories in anyway but maybe they are content watching labour do their job for them...And what a sterling job labour are doing.

Where SOME of its members turned on it? probably every Labour government. Most Tories almost certainly agree with the situation over the WFA. As for as I'm aware the deal is not yet set in stone, and cash from different areas may yet help them out. If and it only an if, the government gets its way energy prices will become lower. Let's not forget it was a Labour government (NL) that reduced VAT on energy to 5%.

True, that's how Labour won the election by saying and doing fuck all, maybe that's the way forward, just let the party implode on itself, sit back and do nothing, I think if the Tories win the next GE it will by doing what Labour did to win this one ...... fuck all.
