The Winter Fuel Allowance of £300 is not been taken away from 10 million pensiners, the £300 Winter Fuel Allowance is the payment that SOME pensioners / pension couples and pensioners over 80 recieve. The majority of pensioners recieve £200 Winter Fuel Payments.
Some posters have disputed the dire financial situation that this country is in, even claiming that it is all a lie made up by the new government. This is despite the OBR admitting that it was a situation they were not aware of ( indicating a cover-up ).
On Friday we became aware that the UK Debt to GDP ratio had reached 100%, a staggering £2.8 Trillion, and we all know that there is a deficit problem inherited from the previous government which has continually added to the National Debt.
PENSIONERS ARE AMONGST THE BEST PLACED TO GIVE A LITTLE BACK
It is now estimated that next years pension increase will be around £520.00, well above inflation, this years increase was £900.00, and last years increase 23/24 was over £800.00, the kinds of sums and kinds of percentage increases that very few working people got.
The least well off pensioners will continue to recieve Winter Fuel Payments, plus there are other benefits available to pensioners, including Pension Credit, help towards rent and universal benefits such as free bus travel.
It is a fact that millions of pensioners who sit on substantial savings, assets, property and private pensions and incomes have been receiving Winter Fuel Payments, and this is wrong.
The people of this country need to "Get Real" and accept that the difference between what we spend and what income comes into the treasury needs to be addressed, except this time it is not going to be the NHS or public services which are going to be hit.
The boss of Iceland was correct this morning on BBC TV when he said that it is those with the broadest shoulders who must pay a FAIR SHARE, "including myself" he said.

The Winter Fuel fiasco was such a badly thought out fuck up that the Treasury is now going to write to every pensioner in the land informing them they will not get winter fuel payment unless eligible for pension credit and encouraging them to claim.
If only a third of those currently eligible but not in receipt now claim then that wipes out any savings and the whole exercise was a waste of time.

That still doesn’t resolve the problem of pensioners getting just a few quid over pension credit and losing £300. What should have been done is … 1find an income level that the government feels is enough not to need the heat allowance 2 find a way to make the heating allowance available to all pensioners with a income below it . The present level of pension credit is too low to deny the heating allowance to pensioners getting slightly above it . Labour just refers to ‘ rich’ pensioners as a diversion . |

So let is look at one statement there It is a fact that millions of pensioners who sit on substantial savings, assets, property and private pensions and incomes have been receiving Winter Fuel Payments, and this is wrong. So just to be clear you are saying that it is wrong for a pensioner, who may have saved well over the years as he paid into the British system, to receive a benefit that currently all pensioners receive and that a pensioner, who may have pissed all his income up against the wall, should get that benefit as a right. (We all know at least several pensioners to whom this applies). You then go on to talk about paying a 'fair share'. No one minds paying a 'fair share' what many object to is being stiffed to allow accommodation and living expenses for a multitude of people who have decided that France is not good enough for them and they would rather avail themselves of the British benefits system the cost of which is kept from those from whom a 'fair share' is demanded. Well, the thing is Incarcerated prisoners get free food, free accomodation, free heating, free clothing, no need for a TV licence, human rights lawyers demand their access to doctors and dentists is guaranteed, and they get a free cremation too. And all they have to do is commit a crime warranting a life sentence. Which to the average pensioner is perhaps a five year stretch in Starmer's Britain. It's awfully tempting. |
