I was just watching some video of a festival where there was a stage set up for various speakers. The woman who was introduced as an economist was wearing DM boots. She looked as if she had just left some student course or other and the boots made me think, she is a feminist for sure and and she will be talking shit.
Leftwing/feminist student type and a subject like economics really do not mix, and sure enough her brain was a total muddle, trying to tell us how capitalism is dead, and describing it in terms that had nothing to do with capitalism, and indeed the opposite. I've heard it all before as Novara Media has a whole parade of leftwinger types, and their views on economics are a facsimile copy of the one before and the one before that.
Anyhow I left a note in the comments informing everyone she was wrong and talking nonsense. Some smartarse gives it the old "I bet you don't have a first class degree in economics from Oxford" in a swipe that he feels will knock down the critics as efficiently as a baseball bat, except she is still wrong and the argument of authority is a fallacy, which you should know damn well if you have a first class degree from Oxford. So, same shit, different day. Same routine, same speech, same arguments and same type of reply. Good god, what do they do to their brains in that place these days? I fear Johnson was not the exception to the rule, but the rule itself.

So you don't have a degree in economics ?
No surprise there.

No. I have little faith in the British university system. I have learnt from practitioners. Actually your attitude was the same attitude I was getting off her defenders on the thread. These degrees are bullshit. She is the proof of this statement. You need to relearn what is what. Stop copying the cult who think a university degree is is the ultimate proof off correctness.

Come on guys, you can do better than issue the bloody stock reply of the ignorant. We are talking about intelligence here. One mark of intelligence is creativity. If you can only repeat the next man it means you are stupid and incapable of thinking at all.
So lets make a start shall we. We know everyone thinks Oxford is the bees knees right. We are all into unthinkingly defending it right? No one wants to stick themselves out on a limb and meet me on this. You really think you are arguing with Newton and Einstein if you do, right? Yes i know Einstein never went to Oxford, but it is this hero worship thing we speak of. If you actually go to Oxford you are met with a whole long line of heroes in stone. Don't you dare challenge us, little man.
So given this is how it is, what of the person who actually gets admitted? No one is going to challenge their view. These are perfect specimens to lead the proles into socialism right? I hope this start into this issue might switch on some brain cells. Lets see if it does.

Diane Abbott gained a degree in Cambridge. So you can add that to the list .

Diane Abbott gained a degree in Cambridge. So you can add that to the list . Exactly, and it turned out Johnson could not understand an exponential function no matter how many times Chris Whitty and Patrick Vallance tried to explain it to him. It was one of the more juicy revelations of the covid enquiry, similar in fact to when Abbott was doing the police funding calculation in an interview.

Iirc not long ago you claimed Abbott must be very intelligent because she went to Cambridge. When I Saul that you were using a circular argument , you got a bit pissy . So have you changed your mind since then? ukpoliticsdebate.boards.net/post/14203/thread

Iirc not long ago you claimed Abbott must be very intelligent because she went to Cambridge. When I Saul that you were using a circular argument , you got a bit pissy . So have you changed your mind since then? Yes well as the evidence comes in one has to alter one's view to match. Indeed I've suspect this thing about Oxford for a very long time. Abbott was Cambridge and in my view I don't think Cambridge is as badly affected. I think Oxford is the epicentre of the training system. Cambridge is more into the sciences where it still does some good work, so lets focus for now on Oxford.
My long-running suspicion stems from a girlfriend I used to have. She went to Balliol in the 80s and the one thing that marked her out was not her intelligence as I thought she was nothing out of the ordinary relative to our crowd who were doing A levels, but she was a definite card carrying socialist. Her father went to Oxford and her brother went to Cambridge - Kings College. The brother was also a socialist from what I heard. She got accepted on the interview so she was accepted on 2 A level passes, as was the system of admission then. You can virtually get in on the strength of the interview (her route) or the other is when you get an offer of say 3 A grades and you have to get in on academic performance. I think this system is unique to Oxbridge, and I've had a niggling suspicion she got in on her personality being conducive to lets say producing some socialist agent to work in an important job, even a cabinet minister, as there do seem to be a lot. I've actually slept in the Balliol College itself where Johnson went. It was a a very strange experience, but I'm glad I did. So no I can not claim I've ever been to China, but I have been to Balliol!

The Cambridge five went to Cambridge as well as Abbott . Maybe you should cast your net a bit wider. Yes well in the other corner of my brain is the pile of physics books I've read from the Oxford and Cambridge university presses. They were good books and intelligently written. I suppose you could glibly say, that was then and this is now:
Above is RA Fisher's memorial. He really is up there with the Newtons and the Einsteins, but unlike the Newtons and Einsteins, you would need to be a an evolutionary biologist to know of him. If you were, you would probably place him next in line to Darwin. Unlike the two world wars, a civilised person would think he deserves the accolade and Cambridge should feel itself privileged to have such a genius walk its corridors. Another intellectual giant who did likewise was Dirac. These notions of intellectual genius hardly fit with what we see in this here picture. It's the work of a moron, but morons don't do evolutionary biology, and so these we can rule out. It's what we are left with as a possible culprit which worries me.
There was a movement in the modern art circa 1910s called iconoclasm. It was mostly ecclesiastical stuff they wanted to smash up, but it seems similar to the above in mental state.

So the answer is that it has nothing to do with it . It’s just a diversion from a dummy .
