Broadly speaking my family divides into Pikkies who ought to be clubbed into the ground by the police and then moved on, and academics doing very nicely from grievance studies and such. But both sides reckon that SOMETHING MUST BE DONE ABOUT IMMIGRATION !
In fact, when I commented that if someone was ready to cross continents and the North Sea in a rubber dingy to reach the UK then that was the sort of chap or chappess that the country needed, well, you would have thought that I had piddled into the sink (not that there is anything wrong with that).
So guys, what is your take on the matter ?

Well you've said it, they risk life and limb crossing the North Sea in a rubber dinghy, and the sort of chap when they reach the UK all of a sudden they become big wimps, wont stay on a well equipped Bibby Stockholm full of everything they require, they wont stay in army barracks where our soliders and families lived, so these chap or chappess that you speak of are not what the country needs.

Immigration is good if you get to choose who comes in. If you throw the doors open to any old tom, dick or harry then you get what you deserve.

One of the reasons uncontrolled immigration is happening, no one really knows, is that lots of people including me are going to die soon. Population will fall off a cliff edge apparently. The problem is that the boat people are blokes, blokes cant make babies.
No, no they cant no matter how much you will try, and want them too. Even females can choose not to have babies, immigration for that reason is silly.

I think I can say without fear of contradiction that Mrs R would not be impressed if she caught me piddling in the sink lol, but notwithstanding my ablutions, I disagree with the argument that says we need people who have the wherewithal to illegally enter the UK because it's difficult. I believe safe cracking is quite a skill, should it be encouraged because it's difficult? Of course not. The problem with people who illegally enter the UK (via the safe EU) from largely lawless countries, is they are used to living on their wits. For many of these people street crime is a way of life and they bring their values with them hence the massive rise in knife crime particularly in the most dangerous and also the most multicultural city in the country. There is also the massive issue of cost and the fact that the government go to some lengths to hide the true cost of immigration from the electorate. Unfortunately thanks to intransigent politicians on both sides of the channel the vast majority of people who have serious concerns over immigration are shouted down as racists, or at best, ignored. The Government should have put in place a system similar to the Australian System, if you have skills they need, plus have a job to go to plus accommodation they will accept you, if not very little chance of them saying yes.
