A Labour MP has apologised after allegedly letting out flats with issues including black mould, broken lights, and even an ant infestation. Jas Athwal – newly elected to the constituency of Ilford South in north-east London – said he is 'profoundly sorry tenants have been let down' after the squalid conditions were discovered. A block of seven flats owned by Mr Athwal contained toxic black mould, broken fire alarms, dirt and even had insect infestations, a BBC investigation found.
