How can this happen? I was due two deliveries today. Stupid bastard number one was from Yodal and managed to deliver it to the right number but the wrong road. Stupid bastard number two from Royal Mail also delivered it to the right number but the wrong road. That's two different stupid bastards from two shit for brains firms who employ such people who both can't read. What is this country coming to? Royal Mail ended up forcing me to contact by phone and after a lot of dicking about the answer machine refused to connect me to a human, and Yodal took 25m to answer a livechat, but at least I managed to communicate with a human, albeit one from the subcontinent.

I've been lucky although things have been late and also getting others mail. I prefer to go shopping rather than deal with the postal zombies. Another tip don't put gift cards in envelopes these often get opened.

I have lots of items delivered in the UK over the years with no problem at all other than left at a house 3 or 4 doors away, here in Ireland we order something about 3 or 4 times a week saves a run to the retail outlets saves a long drive and fuel.
The difference between the UK and Ireland is the UK postcodes gives them an area not a specific house or building, here they use an Air Code each house or building has a different Air Code so right to your door, IMO a far better system very accurate here in the rural areas the Postie knows the name of the occupiers as the houses are not numbered.

Little do you know how deep the rabbit hole runs here in the UK. I accept what you say about Ireland, but here in the UK you can not even live by your intuition. To my horror the other day I discovered I had moved to a different road. If you look on the Google map of my immediate surroundings, the house numbers are all switched around and according to the map, my neighbour lives in my garage and my other neighbour lives in the middle of the road! You go down the rabbit hole today and there are stupid bastards all the way down. I tried to inform Google of what was wrong. You know how the story goes, so the perpetrators can never know.

Great so peaceful friendly helpful people , view of the Atlantic busy getting our new home in order, 10 min drive to Clifden busy Market Town, shops, great pubs busy at this time of year Music most nights, we are not far from Omey Island great fishing, lakes and rivers for Trout and Salmon No Emergency Services Sirens 24/7 , no planes thundering overhead day and night the one heading for America or from America are too high to hear them, originally I had a Lancashire Accent, but after 52 years in London not as broad as it once was, the locals do speak very quickly, some speak Gaelic as well. lots have worked in the UK, America, Australia etc. So far so good, I have come to live with them, not against them

That would have been before GPS became a standard feature in motor vehicles and drivers would have had to be able to read a map themselves.

Exactly the days of having to pull over and check the Map are over, now we know exactly where we are at all times and see what is around us at all times. nearest Fuel Station, the street we want the building etc we want so easy, punch in Post Code or Eircode here right to the door.

I believe it coincided with the widespread use of GPS. I have had the problem for some 15 years or so. I kept on getting deliveries for a house on a different road with a different number. One day I got so fed up with it that I could no longer be arsed to keep chasing the stupid bastards up so I let this box sit on my porch for a few weeks to give them time to find where they lost it and collect it, but no one came so I discovered it was a crate of wine. I got into some French cooking with wine and it made some nice meals. I consider it compensation for the time the firm wasted of mine. Now of course GPS make use of a digital map and computers are even dumber than their operators. You say people don't read maps now. sure, it is probably why they have not found the problem in 15 years and despite me reporting it. One day they will forget how to piss in a pot. NB, the recent day of postal disaster was not this bug. This was a problem with the fools reading the name of the road. Maybe they employ illegal asylum seekers now. I bloody well hope not.

Most consumer GPS have an option to display the map with direction of travel to the top, rather than North at the top as we all learned in the Cubs and Scouts.
That's an indicator of how dumb the designers believe their users are.

Yep, and two fuckups in one day making the same mistake from two different companies who are supposed to be professional map /GPS users is the level we are at. I spoke to the guy eventually at Yodal, who was actually pretty intelligent, but chances are it was a foreign location he was operating from. He has put a request into for 'disciplinary action' to be metered out. He agreed with me that it was beyond the pale. I have also lodged a formal complaint with Royal Mail, so we shall see what they end up saying about it.
