When Euro Disney opened over 30 years ago woke lefties were outraged. On the pirates of the Carribbean ride at the tableau depicting the sack of Kingston a pirate is chasing a buxom comely wench around a barrel of rum, clearly keen to get his hands on her assets, while another is running like hell from a toothless geriatric hag clearly keen on getting in on the action.
Woke lefties were outraged
The comely wench was given a plate of sausages to suggest it was physical hunger from the rigours at sea that the chap craved relief from.
Well, the election of replacements for the woke shitheads has had an impact
Today, the sausages are gone. It is once again clear what the pirates are after
The geriatric hag has been fitted with a broom, which she waves with vigour at the fleeing quarry.
Maybe he failed to pay ....

The pirates of the carribean is an amazing film, or films, with every susequent film it gets worse. I dont get it, its not funny, dramatic, the story doesnt exist, etc.
Its just mad, my partner loves it. Can anyone explain it, the why it exists at all?

Here's an alternative explanation for Disney's reboot of Pirates: "Pirates of the Caribbean has been one of Disney's most profitable movie franchises, but if Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is going to be a successful reboot, then it needs to represent a major change from the other franchise sequels. Collectively, the franchise has been one of the greatest successes in the history of American cinema, with a total box office gross over $4.5 billion. Two of the sequels, Dead Man's Chest and On Stranger Tides, managed to break $1 billion at the box office on their own, so unsurprisingly Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is currently in development. Unfortunately, Pirates 6 is not guaranteed the same box office success as its predecessors. Just in 2024, the box office has seen two franchise sequels break records (Inside Out 2 and Deadpool and Wolverine) while two others were considered major disappointments (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes). Nearly a decade will have passed since the last Pirates movie when Pirates 6 hits theaters, so chances are good it will still be a box office hit. However, the franchise may need to make some major changes to achieve its previous highs. Despite the literal billions that they pulled in at the box office, all the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels could be considered disappointments due to their quality, or lack thereof. The franchise's original movie, The Curse of the Black Pearl, leaned into all the best pirate tropes, themes, and characters, while introducing a colorful cast of characters and some supernatural elements. It was a simple, straightforward, swashbuckling story, and that's what made it great. The characters were memorable, the action was top-notch, and it embraced fun first and foremost. The sequels, on the other hand, literally and figuratively lost the plot. In place of a simple, self-contained pirate story, the sequels exploded into a world of monsters, alternate dimensions, and overwhelming CGI. Unsurprisingly, as the studio ratcheted up the production value, the story and the characters suffered. In fact, each Pirates movie's Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer score has been worse than its predecessor, culminating in an abysmal 30% for 2017's Dead Men Tell No Tales, and subsequently the second-worst box office return of the franchise. If Disney intends to start up the Pirates of the Caribbean money machine again, they have no choice but to fix the problems of the sequels. Trading in Johnny Depp's over-the-top Jack Sparrow (whose schtick had grown old by the fifth movie) for a new central character would be a good starting point, but most importantly, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 needs to simplify the story. The new movie needs to go back to what got people interested in pirates in the first place: swords, treasure, ships, and mischief." www.msn.com/en-us/movies/news/disney-must-face-1-harsh-reality-about-its-pirates-of-the-caribbean-franchise/ar-AA1poW3G

I think the answer is in Ripley's post, the original film grabbed and made the most of every pirate 'trope' imaginable and added a few more. I was gobsmacked to realise the film 'Curse Of the Black Pearl' released I now see in 2003 was actually released eleven years after the ride opened in Euro Disney. We first rode it I now realise in '94, the park was then 18 months old. I saw the film in a Cineworld multiplex and was so shocked by the skeletal transformation of the crew I recall reviewing it on the Cineworld site with a title "Curse Of The Black Pearl: Trust me this ain't no Disney Movie' genuinely believing it would be too horrific for Disney to want anything to do with it. I think the point you make is well made, the subsequent films have become more fantastic and unbelieveable, and it is because the first hit the right balance.

Possibly but I envisage a kind of similarity to the She- hulk where the lady hulk was always smarter and stronger than the male one .

Tbh it's been years since I watched it (The first one) and although over the years I have attempted to watch one or two of the others in the franchise the origional remains the only one I've watched to the end. I just didn't enjoy the follow ups. I don't think that's unusual, successful films often have dire sequels, look at Die Hard. A box office hit that was arguably followed by the worst sequel of all time, I digress. I wonder will the inevitable next 'Pirates of the Caribbean' be more like Jack Sparrows first outing, or in order to push the envelope even further will the Black Pearl be a space ship...
