Curry and chips ,Love thy neighbour, Mind your language , Til death …all lampooned racism but they are Kryptonite to woke lefties
I saw Mitchell in his one man show ‘ The thoughts of chairmen Alf ‘ years ago . He was great .

Johnny Speight and Warren Mitchell did a great job of lampooning racism. Of course Johnny Speight always claimed he was he was "lampooning" at Alf Garnet but I was never quite so sure about that. A lot of what Alf said has stood the test of time. When you watch the old programs now it's Alf who's talking sense - not his lefty family. I'm not even sure it was racist either. Obviously some of the words he used are now considered "racist" but words that are acceptable change over time. What's regarded as racist now wasn't racist back then. |
