Violent attacks against women on British railways has increased by more than 50% since 2021, according to new data.Figures from the British Transport Police Authority’s 2024 annual report showed the number of crimes against women and girls rose from 7,561 in 2021 to 11,357 in 2023. The data, first reported by The Times, also revealed that the number of sexual offences is up 10% over the same period, while sexual harassment reports doubled. 51% of female victims stated that other rail passengers intervened to try to help. However, only one in five people who have witnessed incidents of sexual harassment reported it to police. A separate British Transport Police (BTP) survey released last year reported more than a third of all women travelling by rail would be assaulted during their commute. Í was listening to Julia Hartley-Brewer today and she mentioned this astonishing figure. Normally I'd expect her to go on a rant about what's going on but she was being very careful about what she said. She confined herself to saying that she wondered if the reasons for this huge rise were the same as the reasons for similar rises in Sweden, Germany, France and Belgium. And I think we all know what she means.
Presenters at GB News and Talk are being very careful what they say at the moment.

I agree, in recent weeks I've noticed presenters on GB News have become quite guarded on what they say, and why wouldn't they be slightly nervous. Starmer has made no secret of the fact he doesn't like GB News and I'm sure he will have instructed the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nandy (LOL) to forensically scrutinise every word spoken on the channel. |

I know correlation is not causation but we have to look and see what has also risen quite dramatically in the same period. It is hard to figure out what it is especially if you lean to the left which sweeps a shadow across your vision. |

personally I try and avoid public transport anywhere - this is Germany.. I don't get Twitter, my choice, but I can imagine. I spent 11 years in Germany and absolutely loved it, great times. I still have expat friends in Germany, Paderborn and Duisburg. Actually the guy who lived in Duisburg lived there as a civvy for more than 20 years but moved back to the UK a few years ago because the neighbourhood became overrun with warring Kurdish/Iraqi/Somali gangs. And my friend who lives in Paderborn which 'was' a lovely town says much the same, he told me the relaxed atmosphere I remember has gone, he said (thanks to mass immigration) it's a different town. Such a shame. |

As one of the ‘ far right ‘ was convicted of shouting hateful remarks , I look forwards to the Muslims who spout hatred being convicted very quickly .
