Writing in the Guardian (natch), Justin Welby condemns the rioting:
"It is racist. It targets ethnic minorities. It is anti-Muslim, anti-refugee and anti-asylum seeker. It was detonated by lies and fuelled by deliberate misinformation, spread quickly online by bad actors with malignant motivations.
The lies and misinformation flourished in fertile ground cultivated by years of rhetoric from some of our press and politicians, arriving at a point where some felt emboldened to try to set fire to a hotel housing asylum seekers and target mosques."
He goes further and condemns the far right for its use of 'Christian iconography' (the English flag, presumably) as
" ...an offence to our faith, and all that Jesus was and is. Let me say clearly now to Christians that they should not be associated with any far-right group – because those groups are unchristian. Let me say clearly now to other faiths, especially Muslims, that we denounce people misusing such imagery as fundamentally antichristian."
So there we have it. If you have had uncomplimentary or unloving thoughts about Muslims, refugees or asylum seekers, or yet worse, given expression to such thoughts, consider yourself excommunicated.

Strange days. An Archbishop of Canterbury that is a left wing shill and supports a patriarchal warrior cult.

Welby is an idiot. I see even Giles Fraser has attacked Welby and said that if he is going to start commenting on politics he should try to make sure he gets it right. The "far Right" is not anti-refugee or anti-asylum seeker - it's anti uncontrolled immigration. It's also not anti-muslim - it's anti-islam. And if Welby is not anti-islam I'd like to know if Welby agrees with their beliefs/policies that free speech should not be allowed, that women are inferior beings and that homosexuals should be executed. If so I'd say he should resign.
I remember, a few years ago, that Welby said that it was no longer possible to maintain the position that terrorism was nothing to do with Islam. It was a very surprising comment for Welby to make, but he never followed up on it. It would be good if Welby stuck to religion and tried to start a conversation with the muslim "elders" about stopping "islamist" terrorism across the world - and addressing the idea of a "global caliphate". Maybe he could also broach the subject of Christianity being driven out of the Middle East.

Welby is indeed an idiot, he reminds me of King Charles in many ways, very privileged and pampered, and totally out of touch with ordinary people. Steppenwolf is absolutely correct, far-right equates to fascists and Nazis, not people who want the illegal invasion from the EU stopped. As far as Starmer and indeed Welby are concerned I am apparently far-right, along with the vast majority of ordinary people in this once great country.
