So have the BBC, many children’s care homes , the Boy Scouts and schools to name a few. Paedophiles go we children are , the Christian church was a place where children could be found . Blame the paedophiles within the church not Christianity. Certainly blame the paedophiles, but the church was complicit because it knowingly aided, abetted and enabled these vile practices for decades. No more than the BBC, children’s care homes, Boy Scouts , sports clubs , schools to name a few .

You don't think that a church has a far greater responsibility to the faithful and their children than sports clubs and media? You hold the church harmless? Seriously?

Is child abuse a lesser crime when it’s occurs in Sports clubs? Child abuse occurred in the church for the same reason as anywhere else and would have been overlooked for the same reasons. Please point out where I said the church was harmless?

That was a question, not an accusation. Are you excusing the church's complicity in paedophilia? Please explain why the church can be held to such a low standard. If anything, I think the church should be held to a higher standard simply because it is in a position of trust. If the church teaches honesty and integrity, it should at a minimum practise the same standards it preaches.

Seriously? Where did I excuse the church’s complicity in paedophilia? By saying that other institutions are no better than the church and child abuse occurs in other institutions for the same reasons , am I excusing those institutions complicity in paedophilia ? Why should the BBC be held to lesser standards than a church school . How does that work?

Sorry to butt in here, but aren't we missing the point? Even if Christian scripture doesn't promote paedophilia, there is no getting around the incontrovertible fact that the church has protected paedophiles for decades, shuffling them around to abuse more and more children elsewhere. How is that justifiable or forgivable? And why would they do that if it was against Church Doctrine? All The Best

I am asking if you hold the church harmless and I am suggesting that the church should be held to a higher standard than the BBC, because of its position of trust in your life. You don't have the same kind of contract with the BBC that you have with the church.

All The Best I don't know for sure that it was church doctrine and I can't be bothered doing the research. Some of the texts I have seen could arguably be construed differently than we would construe them today. It just seems to me that regardless of whether it was doctrine, we know that in practice, ie "by their fruits" as it were, that the church has aided and abetted paedophilia by knowingly and deliberately turning a blind eye to it over a period of decades, allowing paedophiles to continue abusing children elsewhere. To me that is unforgivable and it should anger the faithful, who are being held to a higher standard than the church holds itself. It's an outrageous evil.

Are you saying that a swimming coach has less of a responsibility for the care of his pupils than a church sponsored primary school teacher ?

I never mentioned duty of care; of which I am well aware as where I work routinely has 30-50, and sometimes more, children on-site. I am saying neither Sports Clubs or the BBC are claiming to be a Moral Arbiter or an instrument of a benevolent god - while the Church does both. All The Best
