There was a lot of disturbance a while back in the MSM about Chinese webcams and whether they can be monitored by what people call the CCP.
I suppose the way to find out is to buy one and try and hack it yourself. Wireshark is a useful tool to this end. It shows you all the data sent to and from a device and then you can go on to filter the data to find the interesting bits and see what can be made of it using some software tools designed to pick up vulnerabilities in the SSL communication. This video makes a start on that process and as you can see, chances are it would be possible to do some hacks. For example the authentication code was sent in plain text, which is not a good sign for security.
One possible explanation is in China few people take the piss regarding the law, so hacking and the like is not something I hear people in China talk about. Like it is often said in the past in my town you could leave your door unlocked and it would be perfectly safe. Back in those days the locks were hardly secure either, vis a vis over in Italy where security in banks was something of a shock compared to how it was in better times in Blighty. I suppose some will claim it is a conspiracy and the cameras are specially designed to be used as CCP spies in your home. I think it is just more like where there is a need there is a solution provided, but where there isn't a need in China the corner is cut as it saves cost.

One possible explanation is in China few people take the piss regarding the law, so hacking and the like is not something I hear people in China talk about Another is the state does better hacking There are millions of highly qualified computer techies in China. The attitude is different over there though. Even if someone has wronged the Chinese, the Chinese are reluctant to pursue revenge. It's like how the Buddha thinks. Peace is the goal, not war. They do not want to get one over on their neighbour. Exploitation is a US trait. They like to help their neighbour. Likewise there is a harmonious relationship between the government and the citizen. Factory managers look forward to a visit by the government man for he is not out to get one over on them, but to help, and so it is the citizens will help the government man too. It is the complete reverse to how it is in the UK where the government has long been seen as the enemy of the people and purveyor of bad news. In China it is all about team China. If you are proper Chinese then you are on the team and the team is trying to win gold in the Olympics. Respect is gained by what you achieve, not by damage you cause or hate you spread. I think this becomes apparent if you have social chats with the Chinese and get to learn what they like and what they don't.
I think it is likely to be shit locks on doors where they are never really needed. The off licence in Hulme had good security. You were served through a hatch in a steel cage. You one side, the booze the other.
