Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark was born in Greece. He relinquished his Greek and Danish royal titles and styles, and the family name Glücksburg, and became a naturalised British subject, and adopted his maternal grandparents' surname Mountbatten.
So many people in all positions and roles change their names while hanging on to their heritage...
So asking him where he came from would have been racist? As he wasn't a DOS it seems unlikely. But as he was extremely famous, it might have been judged bad manners...

I don't think anyone thinks this whole country is racist. I think many think there are still racists here. We still see bananas thrown onto football pitches and monkey noises. That's the bit we easily see. The more scary bit is the middle aged men who think the same way but have far more power. ZG if you think a banana is racist, you really need to get out more. Go to a country where you have to keep a low profile and dare not say anything that may identify you as an infidel. Then come back to this country and say, a banana is definitely racist. Yeah so long as there's somewhere worse its OK.

Just about everywhere is worse and yet you claim there is an emergency of such magnitude here that the whole of society has to be demolished to make amends.
I say you have been fooled, others might interpret your perverse stance as some kind of antipathy.

I say you have been fooled, others might interpret your perverse stance as some kind of antipathy. I haven't claimed anything of the sort. You're just making stuff up again. BTW This is the true meaning of a straw man. You invent something I say. You rail against that thing.

I think more ignorant than willful, but pretty hard to see it as anything other than racist. I mean, thinking black people can't come from London! 😂 Who said that apart from you?

I'm referring to the bit of the transcript where she says that she is from London, where Lady Hussey then says where are you really from.

There are indeed, there are also some who think they must be in the England football team, or mayor of London or PM That must be a much smaller number. Can't say I've ever met someone who has expressed that opinion. We have a few of the others right here.

I do doubt the interpretation. If a man with an Austrian accent talked to me and I asked him where he came from. He says London I say no I mean originally? Is that racist? Or is it only racist if his skin is black? I still think the old lady meant no harm.

I don't disagree. I'm sure that I posted earlier that she said it out of ignorance. Whether she is actually a racist or not is not proven. But her statement could be interpreted as being racist, as the insinuation is that you can't be British if you're black, which of course we know isn't true.

And that is the rub. it could be interpreted that way. What happened to intent, deliberate intent. It shouldn't be possible to be racist by accident.

Somebody asked a question somebody decided their feelings were hurt, so obvious racism, all completely ridiculous.

It's of course possible to say something racist without intent. That doesn't make you a racist though.

Being racist is actually not a criminal offence unless it transgresses the race laws which none of this appeared to do. The 'victim' may have been upset and violated but then that is just part of normal social intercourse for many people with a host of put downs to do with height, weight, dress, speech, accent, type of car you drive, your wife, your children, your last golf round and the 10, 0 drubbing by Mancaster Rovers.
