On the contrary, I'd hazard a guess that genealogy is one of the more popular hobbies these days. It's simply human curiosity and good manners to show interest in someone's background. |

I think it's more likely she's led a very sheltered life and has not had a great deal of wider-world contact or coaching in modern-day niceties.
Most of us know instinctively now that it can be very career-limiting to display any outward sign that 'difference' has been noted, much less to engage the other party in any discussion about it.
