In the May local elections Mothin Ali won the Gipton and Harehills seat with 3,070 votes, defeating Labour hopeful Arif Hussain, who received 2,323. One of Mr Ali’s supporters shouted “Allahu Akbar” prior to the Palestinian flag being taken down.
Gipton and Harehills is described on the Leeds City Council website as 'Consisting of the two distinct neighbourhoods of
Gipton , which is predominantly a white working class area, and Harehills, which is a much more culturally diverse area. The two areas are also very different in their built environment. Gipton is characterised by large local authority estates, while Harehills has much more 19th Century Terraced housing.
According to the 2021 census, the 'Muslim' community represents the largest religious group, making up 39.4% of the population. The 'Christian' population follows at 34.84%, and 'No religion' is 3rd with 16.38%. The predominant ethnic group is 'Asian, Asian British or Asian Welsh', constituting 38.21% of the total population. The 'White' ethnic group is the second largest, making up 34.54%, while 'Black, Black British, Black Welsh, Caribbean or African' accounts for 17.37%.
Note as always that 'White' is not synonymous with 'White British'.

This might help, the gentleman in the yellow tee shirt bashing the police car is obviously one of the exciting New British, and his good friend with the cigarette lighter trying to set the bus seat cushions on fire is also not a traditional Yorkshireman. Why do you deny the obvious, the rioting was carried out by non white people, why shouldn't we remark on that.   |

View Attachment View AttachmentI see Farage got into trouble for saying the politics of the sub continent playing out in the streets of Britain as inflaming the situation. I have to confess I am not sure how that inflames a situation which is pretty well inflamed anyway. It seems Labour Mayors and Councillors are seeking someone to blame other than themselves. What we have in Leeds is a product of the last 27 years which may or may not have some noticeable positive aspects but what is for certain is the negative aspects also exist and it depends what outweighs the other. |

Made me laugh ,the labour MP saying Farage had not been briefed so doesn't know what he was talking about . He has been warning about the consequences of mass immigration for over 20 years .Labour just want to have a meeting about it before they decide whats gone on, I don't know whos worse the ethnic rioters or the excuse makers |
