For the second Olympics in a row, more females in Team GB than males: 172 versus 155. A sign o' the times?
As usual Britain shows the way.
Are you sure they're all females. These days who knows...

perhaps its just that more females have met the qualifying times? - no big conspiracy.. Yes but, are they all females in the 'traditional' sense, or are some of them 'modern' females? You know, the ones with cocks, testicles, Adams apples, deep voices, a suspiciously high amount of testosterone, and lovely party frocks.

I'm sure we'll all be encouraged to learn that the BBC is also doing its bit for gender balance at the Paris Olympics; here is its presenting team:
L-R: Fred Sirieix, Isa Guha, Hazel Irvine, Clare Balding, Gabby Logan, Jeanette Kwakye, JJ Chalmers and Laura Kenny are presenting the BBC TV coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics

Wouldn't it rather depend upon who set the times, and what they were set to? I haven't checked this time but at an earlier Olympics the female 100m gold medal winner would not have qualified for the mens heats.
It's all to do with making the Games 'gender neutral', not a concept that would have resonated with the ancient Greeks nor indeed with the people who re-invented the games in the 20C. Females cannot run as fast, lift as much and throw as far as men - thats just biology. Not conspiracy. Something that does puzzle me though. I would have expected women to be better at some events than men, particularly that strange ski-ing and shooting winter sport, because their respiratory system is designed to carry the oxygen load for two, which means they should be able to reduce respiratory load and recover dexterity at the shooting stations better than men….

In general for every one of the 35 sports there are an equal number of male and female participants. Exceptions are what used to be called synchronised swimming (no males), so-called rhythmic gymnastics (again no males), while the rings, parallel bars and pommel horse are exclusively for males. Greco-Roman wrestling is also only for men.
Within a particular sport there may also be gender differences in requirements (incl. shooting JoG). The cycling road rcae is an example: females ride 140km while it's 250km for males.

At least the others have some experience of some sort of sport or presenting background . Maybe he is there for the off piste , where to eat on the marathon route section ?

So were all the times that Team GB had more male than female athletes proof of sexism?

So were all the times that Team GB had more male than female athletes proof of sexism? No , it was proof that there were more Olympic events for men . Just to give an example combat sports were not seen as for women until the turn of the century

The Olympics will soon be over so it's about time to resurrect this thread.
Any particular thoughts in the meantime, particularly with regards to Team GB, its ethnic constituents and its overall performance which has been quite mediocre in terms of medals?

The Olympics are over for Team GB, who finished in 7th position in the medal table, behind the Netherlands.
Their 14 gold medals is the lowest since the 2004 Olympics in Athens, and the first time since Beijing 2008 they have won less than twenty.
The inquest can now begin.
