I think most of these people who commit atrocities like this are not only mentally ill but also either on medication that has side effects that tend to make them homicidal or on recreational drugs - or both. It'll be interesting to see what was the cause here. Well looking at his brother who is in jail for murder because someone threw a bottle at his car he pursued mowed down and whilst one lay dying beat the crap out of him. And this one who by all accounts was controlling and they broke up so we see the outcome on her,her sister and mother. Just my opinion but a pair of ***** who cannot cope when things don’t go their way and resort to the extreme (murder) when that happens.

They have no purpose whatsoever in society but to do what they did yesterday ,kill . I would make them illegal to own Self defense is a purpose Fair enough but defence should always be appropriate . If there is a case for needing a crossbow for defending yourself there has to be a case for owning guns . That's not a road I would want us to be going down .

There is a case for owning guns, you make it to the police and if they agree you get a licence.

That's not a road I would want us to be going down . I know you don't mean it in a mealy mouthed way, but 'appropriate' is potentially a bit of a mealy mouthed term in this context. By deeming something inappropriate, you can easily turn someone defending himself into a criminal I don't think the mechanism of self defence should be factor in the appropriateness of self defiance. The important factor is whether they had a genuine reason to believe they were in danger

The important factor is whether they had a genuine reason to believe they were in danger I would agree that believing you are in danger is what counts on the self defence scale and Im not in any way suggesting people shouldn't have the means to do that . What Im saying is if you think you need a crossbow you may as well be allowed a licensed gun .

It looks like it needs to happen. Too many murders with them to ignore the danger. No matter what they ban , people will still kill each other by any means possible

True, but three women were murdered last week and the government is under pressure to be seen to do something.

Then let's hope it's not the usual knee jerk reaction.

With all this Nanny Statery, Labour are making me want to rush out and buy a crate of Jack Daniels, a thousand Benson & Hedges and a crossbow.
Hell, I might even exceed 20mph on the way home.
