Rather than teach people moral values, over the 20c we have preferred to bang them up, and most especially after WW2 as we Americanised.
I can't seem to find a graph of all denominations, but this curve of the Methodists closely looks the same as the Welsh church over the period of 1900 onwards.

Idea!
Take all the prisoners to church on a Sunday .They will be pleased to be on an outing and the Church happy to have some customers , everyone's a winner and a few of the cons might even see the light .

It's not that simple. What I think has happened is the whole of society has lost its moral values and in doing so it rejects the teachings of the church. You see it all day long as people routinely lie to one another and take unfair advantage. It's like corruption is widespread, in every office and family, but the smart ones get away with it and the dimwits get punished all the more. A lot of the prison population is poorly educated, and does not understand the law or much else. You have worse people in business ripping others off for million of pounds, but they have powerful lawyers. I mean a typical way someone might end up in prison is they get stitched up by someone, they exact revenge on them by kicking the shit out of them and then the cops turn up. Also just when the system fails people and they have lost everything, then they can commit crime for economic reasons. The Christian faith teaches repentance and forgiveness. Neither will people forgive and nor will people repent. The criminal system has also become an industry where unscrupulous people generate their own work funded by our taxes. It's the phenomenon of once someone commits a crime they become a customer of lawyers, social services and the police. The more customers the more money the system earns from them. |

You are correct Baron, theres a lot i find objectionable but this is spot on. Those in charge are criminal, as it is at the top, as it is below.
Many years ago Sarah Ferguson publically stated with a smile on her wrteched face, that you can do what you want, as long as you dont get caught, that might as well be the governments position, everyone drinks at the trough.
Look at Boris Johnsons antics.
Look at the record number of immigrants, they can get off a boat, buy a car the next day, go to a football match, eat at macdonalds, buy clothes etc. Kerching. People means money. Property in time, families, income tax, businesses.
As for the church values, conscience.....try persuading a lion to share a meal. The bare appetites of the human are exposed, greed, selfishness, rape, crime, a primitive way of life, acceptable by the government. Who needs cops, values, feast now or starve.
You are not your brothers keeper.

You are not your brothers keeper. The Brits have found a quick fire solution to immigration moving to your area. I saw an example in Wales. The immigrants moved into this house courtesy of the government and the locals fired a firework rocket through their window and burnt their place to the ground. It's the kind of message you can send that is understood in any language. Obviously no one knows who fired it, and why would they. |
