We should certainly be more Australian when it comes to health services.

The cost of immigrants in medical bills is something that's very rarely talked about - the Lefties shut down any discussion of this kind. But the fact is that a lot of immigrants are coming from countries that don't have free health care - so they arrive with a lot of pre-existing problems. One of the reasons they're coming here is to get access to free health care.
They also may be prone to various expensive conditions that indigineous Brits don't have - like sickle cell etc. And Asians are more prone to diabetes - and get it at much earlier ages. And muslims are subject to genetic conditions related to inbreeding.
We shouldn't be giving immigrants automatic access to free health care. It should be paid for - the only exception being in the case of treating transmissible diseases.

For DECADES the LAW has been that anyone who has not been wholly resident in the UK since birth and does not have a full record of NI contributions (which can include those paid as a result of unemployment claims) for the current year AND for two years previous MUST PAY for all NHS treatment apart from stabilising your condition in A&E There are numerous ways this payment is made. Some immigrants whose home country gives visitors and immigrant workers free or subsidised healthcare if ill in their country get the bill paid by our government under these reciprocal arrangements, to cite just one example of many The problem is that no one seems to DO that to them. Free health care to people who have never paid one thin penny into the system is indeed a big issue that is never talked about. In 2013 an NHS study estimated the cost of migrants accessing NHS services was £2 billion a year, and that was more than a decade ago. It's probably double that today, which is why it's never talked about. |
