Cheeky twats, ffs they choose to live outside of society. Do they pay income tax, council tax, national insurance? What about VAT on dodgy drives, the rubble from which they dump on greenbelt land, the same greenbelt land their caravans transit vans and pick-ups are illegally parked on. People who choose to live outside of society, quite literally 'anti social people', should not expect the same privileges afforded to those who choose to live within that society. However, with a Labour government who are desperate to increase their voter base, see ballot boxes in schools, I fully expect to see mobile polling stations despatched to hitherto beautiful areas of greenbelt land so pikeys can vote Labour.

There's no such thing as a "Traveller" for this purpose: Someone either has a permanent address, and all of the relevant responsibilities that go with it, or they don't.

I don't see why they insist on being called 'Travellers' - in my experience it takes an awful lot of work to make them travel off somewhere else.
Travelling seems to be the last thing on their mind.

60% of travellers are illiterate. I lived with travellers for several months. They are in no way stupid ... in many respects they are more aware of reality than literate people. I'm friendly with a guy (who is not a traveller) who I think of as "intelligent" who recently asked me to read something for him ... much to my surprise he said he'd never learnt to read. When I asked him why he said he'd never been interested in learning. Travellers seem to be the same ... they don't develop a desire to learn to read. Studies suggest that there is something "genetic" going on.

Theres a lot of cofusion as to who is who in the world of travelling people
I have a lot of friends who are "Showmen", a proud bunch of people who provide us with our annual fun fairs and carnivals, the vast majority of whom have home bases, but spend many months on the road travelling from one fair to the next, its a way of life.
Showmen are different to "Travellers", most of whom simply seek an alternative lifestyle, many showmen have some Romany blood or heritage. I personally find Showmen to be good and extremely loyal friends, often a bit rough around the edges, often hard drinkers, but hard workers too, and genuine people.
Then there are the Gypsies, Romanies and Tinkers, Irish Tinkers, this is the group where an attitude often exists where no one gives a shit about convention, or living a stereotypical way, and yes its true that quite often if its not nailed down, it might disappear, or get sold.
Though shalt not judge
Many people who's lifestyle is on the move, travelling around, are good people, and I know that from personal experience, but some, a few, cause problems in society.
Should travelling people have a vote ? - Yes You will probably find that the ones who reject the norms of civilised society wont use it anyway, but many who care about their liberty, freedom of the open road, the countryside, minorities, will probably use their vote.

Of course they should have a vote - if they start paying taxes and behave by the norms of a decent society.

They call themselves travellers because of the perks that go with it, they tie the hands of councils wit all sort of legalities once they plonk their 100 caravans and motor homes on beautiful affluent greenbelt land, then the tax payers have to pay for the council to legally get rid of them, which can take months if not years.

Now that’s an interesting strawman. Having done some work for TFL in the days before Saddo Khan, i can tell you that … In order to obtain a Showman’s exemption from Congestion Charge, a showman must register an Approved HGV site for storage of said Showman’s vehicles which it goes without saying must be roadworthy, taxed and insured. As such the authorities have a registered address on which noticrs of intending prosecution may be served. Show me the playing field shit smearing gypsy who has that level of existence in the system

Of course they should have a vote - if they start paying taxes and behave by the norms of a decent society. Paying taxes is not a pre-condition in this country to having a vote The only pre conditions are that you are eligble as a British citizen or resident, and that you have not got certain criminal convictions against you, or that you are not in prison.

I know what the Law is - I disagree with the Law. Just as I disagree with the protections travellers get under the Law to prevent them being kicked off private land.

Everywhere I’ve lived , every time a bunch of gypsies turn up and stay , things get stolen , things get broken and a load of shit is left to clear up. Pikeys are the most entitled bunch you will ever come across . My son in law is from showman stock. He’s OK but you don’t have to be showman to work at a fair and you dont have to be nice to be a showman . In other words , you can’t judge gypsies by showman and you can’t judge showmen by gypsies .
