I know it generates a lot of revenue (so in my view there is a case for it, sort of), but it strikes me as being a very regressive tax that disproportionately hits ordinary people whilst VAT registered businesses can claim back VAT. If it were to be reformed, how would you reform it? I would slash VAT to 5%. But I would end the situation of businesses being able to claim back VAT.
What would you do?
Do you think there is a case for VAT? Do you think it should be reformed / scrapped / kept as is?
