A final Snapchat video of British teenager Jay Slater reveals he was smiling and laughing the night before he went missing in Tenerife.

The 19-year-old travelled to the Canary Islands for the three-day 'New Rave Generation' (NRG) music festival with Lucy Mae and another friend last week.

On Sunday night, the apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, left the party in South Tenerife with 'two English lads he met at a party'. One of the lads had hired a car and drove them all back to his apartment 'for a few beers'.

The next day, Jay set off on foot having had no luck catching a bus. He used his Maps on his phone to direct him but took a wrong turn and ended up 'in the middle of nowhere'.

He disappeared after making a phone call to Lucy at around 8am on Monday, in which he sounded disorientated, was in desperate need of water and only had one per cent battery left on his phone.

His last known location was in the mountainous area of Teno Rural Park, some 10 hours' walk away from his accommodation in the southern part of the island. He has not been seen or heard from since.

Jay Slater has not been found, dead or alive, and the search has been called off. Another Madeleine McCann? Who knows.

I know the area from years ago. As I said in the other post it combines the worst aspects of the terrain they take wannabe SAS recruits over, with blistering sub Saharan African heat.

I was there at a time when my eldest was a member of the organisation that rescues unfortunate souls off the cliffs and the rapids of the River Wye.

The RNLI charter won't allow operation much further than the old Severn bridge and it's the insurance clauses that limit it. As with a similar nasty tidal location at Ferryside near Carmarthen, the Wye has a Severn Area Rescue Association covering the tidal Wye but they took are limited. Where they stop, Swiftwater 2000 took over.

So I know a bit about the area, and the task

If I was there now I wouldn't turn out to search that area if they asked. Twenty years ago were this to have occurred when I was there I would have without hesitation, today the terrain would kill me. It's that rough, that nasty

If he fell down the nicest of the slopes at the edge, and there are not many, he's gone in the sea. If that is the case and he was injured and without help the current and wind has taken him to North Africa's western Sahara shore.

If he fell down the nastier ones, well I know what happens then and I wouldn't wish that on Jeremy Hunt or Tony Blair.

I don't know what this lad was thinking but then I do know we all do stupid shit sometimes, some more than others

I have heard some of the wilder theories and to be frank I hope some of them, and all the bloody trolls, find themselves crash landed in the bloody kalahari to see what it feels like

As for this lad, I'm sorry but in common with a certain young girl he's vanished into thin air at a holiday resort. I doubt any trace will be found and I don't want to say it but at this stage even Ray Mears and Bear Grylls would have not made it.....

The situation is looking increasingly bad. So sorry to hear about this tragic case.
